Abstract

A label or tag may be fixed to a watch to carry personal identification details. It may be a stick-on label or small pouch adhered to the back of a wrist watch. Alternatively, it may be held against the back of the watch by means of tabs folded over the watch case or strap as shown. Such tags may also be applied to pocket watches.

2356185 WATCH TAG - PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION This invention relates to a

means of personal identification using a wrist-watch or similar portable time piece carried on a person.

Wrist watches are now worn by over 95% of the adult population in the western world. Wrist watches come in a variety of shapes and size, but they all have a strap fixed to the watch case such that the underside of the case is directly in contact with the surface of the wrist.

The back plate of a watch case is a flat area which can be used as a convenient and unobtrusive area to give personal identification details relating to the wearer.

This information can be of vital use for ease of identification of people who have been killed or injured in a accident when next-of-kin have to be informed. In the instance of accidents involving fire or passenger aircraft, identification of the body is often a long process which often requires the services of a forensic scientist, if the body has been severely mutilated.

It is an object of the present invention to attach to the back of a wrist watch or similar a means for the easy identification of a human body that has been in an accident and the wearer has either been unconscious or killed.

Such information could be in a variety of forms but would be sufficient to ensure that the appropriate authorities can be notified at the earliest opportunity.

A specific"dinbodiment of the invention will now be described by way of an example with references to the accompanying drawing in which: - Figure I shows a typical wrist watch with straps, indicating the flat surface on the back of the watch case whereupon the information relevant to an individual can be sited. This may be in the form of a stick-on label or for preference a small pouch.

Figure 2 shows a possible alternative whereby the identification tag or pouch is secured to the watch case by means of tags which are wrapped over the strap or case. Such a fixing method would be suitable for leather or fabric straps as distinct from the increasingly common metallic strap which are often made integral with the case of the watch.

A quick release mechanism or similar device can be incorporated to enable identification tags to be removed from the watch without the necessity to remove the watch from the wrist.

Claims

A personal identification label which is fixed to a wrist watch or similar time piece.

A personal identification tag as claimed in claim I which is fixed to the back of a wrist watch case so that on removal of the watch from the wrist the details of the wearer can be obtained.

A personal identification tag as claimed in claims I and 2 which can be fixed to the back plate of a wrist watch which may be in the form of a small pouch which upon opening Will reveal the identification of the wearer and give sufficient information for identification purposes.

A personal identification tag as claimed in claims 1,2 and 3 which can be attached by any suitable means to a wrist watch or pocket watch including fob watches.
