Abstract
A watch comprises a watch case 12 and a watch strap 14, the watch case being provided with a plate 18 which is mountable to the watch case by, for example, screws 20, wherein the plate has either identification details or a personalised message thereon. <IMAGE>
Description
A WATCH
This invention relates to a watch, and in particular a "personalised" watch.
Most watches do not have any type of identification showing the owner of the watch or alternatively do not provide what one would call personalised messages.
According to the invention a watch has a watch case and watch strap, wherein the watch case is provided with a plate which is removably mounted to the watch case, and on which platetidentification details or a personalised message can be placed.
Such an arrangement provides a simple way of mass producing a watch which can thereafter be personalised by engraved messages or identification details on the plate.
Suitably the plate is removably attached to the watch case by attachment means, for instance a couple of screws.
Preferably the screws are positioned at opposite ends and opposite sides of the plate to each other (in other words at opposing corners of the plate) in order to securely tie down the plate to the watch case.
Advantageously, the watch case is provided with a channel/trench in which the plate is mounted such that the top of the plate is flush with the upper surface of the watch case.
The top ofthe screws are also suitably arranged when tightened to be flush with the upper surface of the watch case, since the top of the corresponding holes in the plate are suitably hollowed to accept the top of the screws. Alternatively the tops of the screws extend slightly beyond the upper surface of the watch case, in other words, the heads of the screws protrude above the plate when they are tightened down thereon.
Finally, the watch case has a watch face which is orientated at an acute angle (most preferably 60 ) to the longitudinal axis of the watch, whereby more space is provided for the 'plate (which is also orientated at the
~ , same acute angle).
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a plan view of a watch in accordance with the invention.
The watch 10 shown in Figure 1 has a watch case 12 and a watch strap (partly shown designated as 14).
The watch case 12 incorporates a watch face 16 which is digital or an ordinary watch face including hour and minute hands 15.
The watch case 12 is also provided with a plate 18 on which identification details or a personalised message can be engraved.
The watch face 16 is orientated at an acute angle (preferably 600) to the longitudinal axis 17 of the watch so as to allow more space on the face 16 for the plate 18 (which is also orientated at the same acute angle).
The plate 18 is removably fixed to the outer face of the watch case.
In particular, the plate 18 is secured to the upper face of the watch case by means of two screws 20 which are positioned at opposite ends and opposite sides of the plate to each other (in other words at opposing corners of the plate) in order to securely mount it in place on the watch case.
Suitably the watch case 12 is indented to provide a channel/trench which corresponds inversely in shape to the shape of the plate 18 such thatithe plate can be flushly mounted relative to the upper surface of the watch case.
The top of the screws 20 are also arranged to be flush with the upper surface of the watch case, since the top of the corresponding holes in the plate are suitably hollowed to accept the top of the screws. Alternatively and not shown in the drawing, the tops of the screws extend slightly beyond the upper surface of the watch case, in other words, the heads of the screws protrude above the plate when they are tightened down thereon.
Such a watch is simple in design, and in particular one mould can be used in order to obtain a plurality of watches each of which can be individually personalised.
