Abstract

A watch has a component 14 which can be rotated to adjust the positions of the hands of the watch, and which can be pressed to activate a camera and/or a voice recorder and/or a GPS (Global Positioning System) transmitter within the watch. These may be used to record pictures and voice of a person attacking the watch wearer, and to notify the police via the GPS transmitter. The watch may have a flexible strap 10 for fitment around the wrist with a fastener 11,12 that can only be opened on use of a specific code. The watch may be worn by a child and the code may only be known to their carer or relative. Opening the fastener without the code, or cutting the strap, may activate an alarm. The watch may be waterproof and look inexpensive. Each watch may have a specific number linked to a police record including the full name and date of birth or the wearer.

Field of the Invention
This invention relates to watches and it is an object of the present invention to provide a watch which provides improved protection facilities for, for example, young girls.
Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention there is provided a watch having a component which can be rotated to adjust the positions of the hands of the watch and which can be pressed to activate a camera and/or a voice recorder and/or a GPS (Global Positioning System) transmitter within the watch.
The watch preferably has a flexible strap for fitment around the wrist of the user and the strap preferably has a fastener that can only be opened quietly on use of a specific code.
The person wearing the watch is not notified of the code and is thus not able to remove the watch quietly from his or her wrist whereas their relative or carer is notified of the code.

Description of the Preferred Embodiment
The watch shown in the drawings is intended to be used by a young person, particularly a young girl, and has a strap 10 which fits around the wrist of the user, being held in position by a fastening mechanism comprising clips 11 and 12 which include facilities such that the fastening mechanisn can only be opened quietly on use of a specific code. The wearer of the watch is not informed of the code and is thus not able to take the watch quietly off his or her wrist.
The relative or carer responsible for the person wearing the watch is made aware of the code so that the watch can be taken off the user's wrist quietly if and when necessary. ft however, the user or any third party does manage to take the watch off the user's wrist, an alarm is generated. The watch is comfortable to wear and completely waterproof.
The watch body 13 contains a GPS (Global Positioning System) transmitter so that, if the person wearing the watch goes missing or activates an alarm, as described below, he or she can readily be located by the carer, police or other authority. Each watch has a specific number, for example, AB0025, and the records available for the authorities will include the full name and date of birth of the person wearing the watch.
The watch body 13 contains a long life battery and the carer or relative will be able to change the battery, or recharge the battery using a quick charger. If the battery is low, a warning signal or "bleep" will be generated.
At the side of the watch body 13, there is a button 14 which can be rotated to adjust the positions of the hands of the watch. If, however, the button 14 is pressed, this will activate the GPS transmitter to generate a signal to warn the police that the person wearing the watch is under attack. At the same time, a camera and a voice recorder within the watch body will both be activated to record pictures of the attacker and their voice.
The watch is intended to look inexpensive and not to cause suspicion and caril be used, for example, by police or special branch investigators.
The watch strap 10 may be of toughened leather with wires (not shown) going through it, with the arrangement such that the mechanism within the watch body 13 will start automatically once the clips 11 and 12 are fastened together.
The mechanism within the watch body 13 includes means whereby cutting of the strap 10, and thus the wires within the strap 10, activates an alarm.
The embodiment described above includes a GPS transmitter contained within the watch body 13. The watch body 13 may alternatively, or additionally, contain a camera and/or a voice recorder which is activated on pressing the button 14.

Claims (2)

  1. Claims:- 1. A watch having a component which can be rotated to adjust the positions of the hands of the watch and which can be pressed to activate a camera and/or a voice recorder and/or a GPS (Global Positioning System) transmitter within the watch.
  2. 2. A watch as claimed in Claim 1, which has a flexible strap for fitment around the wrist of the user, and the strap has a fastener that can only be opened quietly on use of a specific code.
