Inking-apparatus.-A doctor blade 2 for an intaglio-printing cylinder 1<a> is caused to press on the cylinder by a force applied to it along a substantially continuous line between its operative edge and its line of support. The blade 2 is clamped to an arm 31 mounted on a shaft 1 so as to be adjusted by a screw 27, a spring 4 serving to rock the shaft so as to press the blade against the cylinder. This movement is limited by a set-screw 5 and stop 6, so that normally the blade leaves a thin film of ink over the whole surface of the cylinder. To scrape the ink from the cylinder when printing, pressure is applied to the blade 2 by a member 10 on a shaft 7 carrying an arm 11 pivoted to a lever 12 attached to a weighted lever 15. The pressure on the member 10 is limited by an adjustable stop 18 carried by the lever 12 and engaging a fixed part 32 on the machine frame, the lever 12 being provided with a slotted part 13 engaging the cylinder shaft 14 so as to be capable of movement with the arm 11. When an engraved sheet is secured to the cylinder, means are provided for lifting the member 10 off the blade 2 when the securing gap for the sheet is passing under the blade, these means consisting of an adjustable cam block 19 secured to a disc 20 on the cylinder shaft 14, and a roller 21 on the lever 12, so that once in every revolution the cam and roller lift the lever 12 and through it the member 10. The member 10 consists of a flexible strip which is reinforced by a metal plate 22, and is clamped to a bar 9 adjustable by a screw 26. A handle 25 is provided on the shaft 7 for lifting the member 10 by hand when desired.
