Abstract
A cheque book or paying in book comprises several pairs of interleaved pages 3,4. Each pair of pages comprises a money transfer document 3, a copy page 4, and means for copying on to the copy page. The copying means may comprise a sheet of carbon paper or alternatively the back of each money transaction document can be treated to render it self-copying.
Description
1 2355688 SELF-COPYING MONEY TRANSFER DOCUMENTS The present invention
relates to bank cheque and paying-in books and other money transfer documents which include a stub or counterfoil which acts as a record of a transaction.
Conventional bank cheque and paying-in books have a number of leaves, each leaf being in two parts, a major, tear-off portion which either is the cheque or paying slip and a minor portion, or stub, which acts as a record of io either the issue of a cheque or the paying of a sum of money into an account. Similar books may be used for the paying of a debt by instalments or for other purposes such as the paying of State benefits. In each case, to maintain an accurate record of a transaction, the stubs or counterfoils have to be completed at the same time that a transaction is carried out. In the cases of cheque and bank paying-in slips in particular, often this is overlooked leading to an inaccurate record of the day-to-day movements of a bank account.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved bank cheque or paying-in book, or the like.
According to the present invention, there is provided a bank cheque or paying-in book or the like comprising a plurality of interleaved pages, each pair of pages comprising a money transfer document and a copy page, and means for producing on the copy page a duplicate of a transaction carried out by the use of the money transfer document.
The means for duplicating on the copy page a recorded on the copy page a record of the said transaction may comprise a sheet of carbon paper.
2 Alternatively, the back of each money transaction document can be treated to render it self-copying. In this case, it is desirable to provide a stiff insert which can be used to prevent the completion of one money transfer document being recorded on the copy pages of succeeding money transfer documents.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, which is a representation of a bank cheque book embodying the invention.
Referring to the drawing, a bank cheque book embodying the invention comprises a folded cover 1 to one leaf 2 of which there is attached a number of cheques 3 which have been treated to make them self-copying. Interleaved with the cheques 3 are copy pages 4. For convenience of use, the cheques 3 and copy pages 4 are attached to the leaf 2 of the cover 1 at opposite edges. Attached to the spine of the cover 1 is a stiff interleaf 6.
In use, the top cheque 3 and associated copy page 4 are folded back, exposing the next cheque in the book, the interleaf 6 is folded down to cover the exposed cheque, and the copy page 4 is placed in position on the interleaf 6. The top cheque 3 is placed on top of the associated copy page 4, completed and torn out in the normal way.
The procedure is repeated with successive cheques. When the final cheque has been used, there remains a complete record of all the transactions which have occurred during the lifetime of that cheque book.
The whole unit may be disposable, or the block of cheques and copy pages 4 may be made to be inserted in a permanent cover.
The same principle can be applied to bank paying-in books, or other money transfer documents which have a detachable main part and a counterfoil, or stub, such as the books of paying-in slips issued by the public utility companies to enable accounts to be settled by instalments.
1. A bank cheque or paying-book or the like comprising a plurality of pairs of interleaved pages, each pair of pages comprising a money transfer document and a copy page, and means for producing on the copy page a duplicate of a transaction carried out by the use of the money transfer document.
2. A bank cheque or paying-in book or the like wherein the rear surface of each money transfer document is treated to render the money transfer document self-copying.
3. A bank cheque or paying-in book or the like substantially as hereinbefore described and with reference to the accompanying drawing.
