Description

PERSONALISED BOOKS This invention relates to personalised books such as personalised cheque books for bank accounts and the like.
Generally speaking when a personalised cheque book is prepared, the various pages of the book are printed with personalised data separately (or in sets), the pages are then collated and the binding operation is then carried out. Such collation is carried out by hand since it is essential to ensure that each page of each book has the data relating to the same person.
Printing is normally carried out, by personalising several cheques making up a single sheet with data relating to different persons or accounts, the collated and bound sheets finally being slit to separate them.
At this stage it is generally necessary to associate with each cheque book, an address slip which can be inserted into an envelope with the cheque book for mailing.
Again it is essential for the individual address slips to be matched to the correct cheque books and considerable labour costs are involved in carrying out the appropriate checks.
It is an object of the invention to provide a personalised book construction in which the labour involved in checking that an appropriately personalised address slip has been associated with each book is avoided.
In accordance with the invention there is provided a personalised book having a plurality of pages each of which is marked with personalised data, one of said pages having an extension portion attached thereto and having corresponding personalised data depicted thereon, said extension portion being folded to a position overlying the extension of the book such that the personalised data on said extension portion is visible.
An example of the invention is shown diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a diagrammatic exploded perspective view of an example of a personalised book in accordance with the invention during collation, and Figure 2 is a side view of a completed book.
Figure 1 shows a plurality of cheque sheets each of which includes four cheques printed with different personalising indicia, so that when the completed book is subsequently slit into four separate cheque books each will contain data appropriate to one of four different persons or accounts.
In addition there is a wider sheet 20 printed adjacent one margin with personalised cheque book order forms and adjacent the opposite margin with personalised address slips (and/or acknowledgement formes) . The sheets are formed into a stack with front and back covers (11, 12) with the left hand margins of the sheets aligned so that the wider sheet projects to the right of the stack. The projecting portion of the wider sheet 20 forms an extension portion 20a and this sheet is creased and/or perforated so that it can be folded behind the back cover as shown in Figure 2. It will be noted that this extension portion 20a is narrower than the other sheets 10, so that when folded behind the back cover its edge is spaced from the left hand edges of the sheets 10.
When the books are bound in the usual binding 13, the extension portion 20a is thus left free of the binding.
It will be noted that the personalised data printed on the extension portion 20a is now visible at the back of the finished book. The cheque book can thus be inserted into a window envelope and mailed without any doubt that the book is being mailed to the address appropriate to person or account identified by the personalised data on the cheques themselves.
