Abstract
A concertina garage canopy is attached at 1 to the door perimeter and has a frame 2 which can be drawn down to the ground as shown so as to give cover to a vehicle outside the garage. When not in use the canopy can be folded back so that frame 2 is adjacent frame 1. There is an intermediate position (Fig 2, not shown), where frame 2 is vertical but spaced from frame 1 to give partial, open - ended cover. Canopy 7 is supported on scissor links 5.
Description
2354777 CONCERTINA GARAGE CANOPY This invention relates to a concertina
garage canopy.
At present, there is no device that can be attached to the front of a domestic garage door perimeter area to accommodate under-cover protection of a stationary vehicle immediately outside the garage itself. In addition, the majority of domestic up-and-over garage doors are of a uniform size, both in height and width. Vehicles which exceed the door size criteria are impossible to enter into the available space in a standard-size garage.
Only bespoke domestic garages can be designed for the height/width and/or length requirements of such vehicles, which may not be practical in the majority of homes. Also, many households now have more than one vehicle.
According to the present invention there is provided a concertina canopy system, attached to the garage door perimeter area, which enables the user to draw down the canopy for affixation to the ground, thereby enabling adequate under-cover protection for the entire vehicle or section thereof When not in use, the system can be folded back into a housing attachment which is fixed to the front frame assembly and perimeter area and locked away.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
2 Figure 1 shows in perspective the assembly as attached to the garage door perimeter area, folded away and locked (housing attachment not shown).
Figure 2 shows in perspective the partial concertina action as the assembly is unlocked and opened.
Figure 3 shows in perspective the full concertina action as the assembly is in situ on the ground.
Referring to the drawing the canopy comprises a front and rear frame 1 and 2, fixed rails 3 and retractable rails 4, as shown in Figs 1 and 2. The front frame is then extended by means of scissor-action connectors 5 covered by suitable weatherproof material 7 by means of fasteners (not shown), which achieves partial cover, as shown in Fig 2. By means of a plurality hinge 6, the front frarne is then fully extended to the ground, giving total cover, as indicated in Fig 3 (front housing attachment not shown).

Claims (4)
1 A concertina garage canopy system, attached to the garage door perimeter area, which enables the user to draw down the canopy for affixation to the ground, thereby enabling adequate under-cover protection for the entire vehicle or section thereof When not in use, the system can be folded back into a housing attachment which is fixed to the front frame assembly and perimeter area and locked away.
2 A concertina garage canopy system as claimed in Claim 1 whereby the canopy comprises a front and rear frame, fixed and retractable rails.
3 A concertina garage canopy system as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, whereby the front frame is extended by means of scissor-action connectors covered by suitable weatherproof material by means of fasteners, which achieves partial cover.
4 A concertina garage canopy system as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 whereby by means of a plurality hinge the front frame is fully extended to the ground, giving total cover. 5 A concertina garage canopy system as claimed in any preceding claim, whereby the mechanism is capable of being extended to floor level giving total cover. 6 A concertina garage canopy system as described herein with reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows je. CLAIMS 1 A concertina garage canopy system, comprising a rear frame attachable to the garage door perimeter area, a concertina type canopy extending between this frame and a front frame which can be affixed to the ground, thereby drawing down the canopy so as to protect a vehicle, the entire system being foldable back when not in use into a housing attachment comprising the front and rear frame assemblies. 2 A concertina garage canopy system as claimed in Claim 1, whereby the canopy comprises the front and rear frame, fixed rails which bear the front frame when in the closed position, and retractable rails which retract as the system moves from an open to a closed position. 3 A concertina garage system as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, whereby the front frame is extended, by means of scissor-action connectors covered by suitable weatherproof material by means of fasteners, to achieves partial cover. 4 A concertina garage canopy system as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3, whereby by means of a plurality hinge the front frame can be extended further, to the ground, to achieve total cover. 5 A concertina garage canopy system as described herein with reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing, V
