Abstract
The invention relates to an up-and-over garage door cover 2,3,5 and 7 designed to fit the overlap section of the door that is exposed when the door is in the open position. The cover preferably has a means 1 to attach to the overlap section of the protruding door. The two inner corner sections 4 may be expandable so as to enable the front section 7 to be elevated to enable sheltered interaction with a stationary vehicle. Any of the three sides may have a panel 6 that allows light into the garage. The side sections 2 and 3 may be moved to gain access and may incorporate means to hold in them in the open or closed position.
Description
Garage Door Cover This invention relates to a cover that can be fitted
to garages with up-and-over door mechanisms.
In order to accommodate a vehicle, when open, garages fitted with door mechanisms (cave a sizeable aperture exposing the interior of the garage.
The garage up-and-over door has to be opened to a set height to enable ease of access in and out of the garage as well as providing functionality within the garage premises space, when open, it leaves an exposed overlap section of the door on the outside of the building.
Since a garage often has other uses other than for solely parking a vehide within It, as such It is often used to house personal objects of value to the occupier which they might prefer to keep from public gaze. When the garage door is open, it leaves a an open cavity that exposes the space inside to the elements from the outside such as the weather, as well as leaving the inside of the garage and all its contents to be exposed and easily viewable by people outside of the garage.
Often space inside a garage can be restricted and cumbersome for working on a vehicle within It. The exposure to the weather also hinders loading and unloading a vehide into a garage through the boot or tailgate of a vehicle.
To overcome the limitations of a garage fitted with an up-and-over mechanism, the present invention proposes a cover that will readily cover over the exposed overlapping section of garage door and have a material that will hang down and provide cover for all exposed sides, effectively endosing and extending the inner area of the garage. When the cover is fitted, access to the garage through the cover will be enabled by the user pushing aside either side of the hanging material or by rolling the material back and temporarily attaching one side so as to leave an open space whilst not compromising the shelter function.
Preferably the top of the section of the cover wilt be easily attachable to the top of the door by means that wilt ensure secure but readily demountable erection of the cover.
In order to aid internal lighting of the garage space preferably some covers can have a panel or panels at the top that will enable light to pass through.
Preferably, the cover's two outside corners are to be extendable and perhaps concertlnaed or pleated so as to allow outward extension of the cover to drape over Items such as a vehicle bonnet, boot or tailgate, whilst retaining its sheltering properties and function.
By endosing the exposed overlap space of an up-and-over type door the cover will effectively extend the working area within the garage by providing a sheltered space that will also limit the exposure of the Inner area to elements from the outside such as the weather, as well as leaving the inside of the garage and all its contents enclosed and unable to be seen by external viewers.
By pleating the two outside corners of cover of the cover is multifunctional and will enable it to drape over parts of a vehicle to provide extra shelter when working on or loading a vehicle.

Figure 1: Shows the up-and-over garage door cover from the inside view. In figure 1, it is shown that the cover top (5) has a membrane that could possibly be used to thread an attaching mechanism through it (1). There are two sides (3) and (2) which hang loose so as to enable them to move freely to enter or and exit the cover, yet hang dosed when required to do so.
The corners (4) have a concertinaed bunching to allow the front sectIon (7) to be elevated whilst not restricting the shelters properties.
The front section (7) could possibly house a panel (6) that will enable light to filter through into the garage area.
Figure 2: Shows an example of an up-and-over mechanised garage door (A).
Figure 3: Shows an example of an up-and-over mechanised garage door (A) opened, noting the overlap (B) and the distance hang (C).
Figure 4: Shows an example of the possible cover (fig: 1), note the top section of the cover (5) is intended to seat on the overlapping door sectIon (A) and slide on to the section through length (B) and hang to the ground through length (C).
Figure 5: Shows the cover (fig: 1) positIoned before attachment to the garage door overhang (A).
Figure 6: Shows the cover (fig: 1) positioned after attachment to the garage door overhang (A) thus providing shelter and privacy.
FIgure 7: Shows the cover (fig: 1) posItioned after attachment to the garage door overhang (A) and a possible way of opening the entry/exit flaps (2) and (3) and a possible fastening method to retain the aperture open.
Figure 8 and 9: Shows a diagram of a vehide stationary and parked in front of the garage with the bonnet open.
Figure 10: Shows the cover (fig:1) attached to the garage door (A) with the cover extended with sections (4) allowing the parked vehide to be covered under the bonnet, thus enabling ease of access whilst providing both privacy and shelter. Note the light filtering panel will still enable light to enter thus aiding practical use.
Claims (5)
- Claims 1. An enclosure designed to fit over the overlap section leftexposed when an up-and-over garage door is open.
- 2. An overhead enclosure according to claim 1, comprising of means for attaching the cover to the overlap section of the door enveloping the top section whilst draping material down from the three exposed sides.
- 3. An overhead enclosure according to claim 1, with material covering the three exposed sides according to claim 2, in which It temporarily increases the area of garage whilst enclosing the Increased area when the garage door Is open and allows ingress and exit from either side sections.
- 4. An overhead enclosure according to claim 1, with material covering the three exposed sides according to claim 2, in which the area Is Increased according to daim 3, which forms a shelter that divides the outside from the Inside area in which the shelter provIdes privacy from the outside when all sides are down.
- 5. An overhead enclosure according to claim 4, which provides a sheltered section for draping over a section of a vehicle when parked In close proximIty to the garage door opening.
