Abstract

235,376. Smyth, H., and Motolite Dynamos, Ltd. May 29, 1924. Clamps, screw.-A device for clamping articles such as battery boxes to rods or tubular supports such as cycles, comprises a base element of circular form secured to the article and a cylindrical member with diametrically opposite slots at one end for engaging the rod and a coned end engaging a similarly shaped seating in the base element. The cylindrical member 6 is interposed between the base 3 and the rod, and the coned end 5 enables the plate 2, to which the base 3 is rigidly secured, to be adjusted rotationally with respect to the rod, which engages a pair of notches 7 or 8, of suitable size. The Figure shows a second cylindrical member 9 with notches corresponding to those in the member 6, placed at the other side of the rod and having a coned end 12 engaging a coned bearing in a disc 13. After rotational adjustment of the plate 2, the nuts 15 of the screws 14 carried by the base 3 and passing through the disc 13, are tightened, clamping the whole into position. For D-shaped rods. the member 9 may be omitted when the disc 13 engages the rod directly. The base member 3 has vertical extensions 4 for bolts 17, which, together with the bolt 16, enable a battery box 1 to be secured to the plate 2,
