Abstract
234,374. Compagnie Lorraine de Charbons, Lampes, et Appareillages Electriques. June 25, 1924, [Convention date]. Cable and wire terminals; wire couplings.- In order to provide a terminal lug on the end of a conductor or a common terminal lug on the ends of a plurality of conductors, the end or ends are shaped by bending or pressing as closely as possible to the desired form, the end or ends forming a base on which is electrically deposited before or after bending one or a plurality of metal coatings to the thickness desired so that the electroplated end or ends may be finally pressed to form the shape of lug desired. Several forms of lugs formed in this way are described. As shown in Fig, 1 annular lugs 2 are formed on the ends of stranded conductors 1, and in Fig. 4 slotted lugs 2<b>. In Fig. 5 the lead 1 has a lug 4 with two connection holes, the two stages of bending the end 6 of the lead being shown in Figs. 5<a> and 5<b> and the electrolytically covered end 4b being pressed into shape being shown in Fig. 5<c>. Similarly formed common lugs 3, 5, 6 and 6<a> for a plurality of conductors are shown in Figs. 2, 7 and 8. In Fig. 9 a single stranded conductor is flattened and electrically deposited to form a flat solid lug which may be clamped down in the manner shown in Fig. 10. Copper is the metal usually employed for covering the ends of conductors, but other metals, e.g. nickel, silver &c. may be employed, or successive coatings of different metals, e.g. copper and tin may be used.
