Abstract
A board comprises in consecutive layers from the center to the outside, a core (1) of cellulose impregnated in phenolic resin: a thin sheet (2) of cellulose impregnated in melamine; a thin sheet (3) of laminated wood treated with a phenolic resin; a pack (4) of shades comprised of one to three thin, translucent and/or transparent sheets of cellulose, each impregnated in a resin which may be either melamine, melamine-acrylic, phenolic or melamine-phenolic; and a thin, transparent, acrylic sheet (5) with a surface finish achieved by means of a thin peel-off sheet (6) applied during the board-pressing process.
Description
1 "kB(" 2335626 The sandwich-type boards, in the manufacture of which
different layers of cellulosebased material that has been impregnated and then pressed to produce a compact board, are already known.
Said known boards involve drawbacks which include:
- Physicochemical contamination of the different layers of the board impregnated in different resins.
Limited color-related adaptability to the requirements of different customers.
Limited adaptability finish-for the finished board.
Does not withstand the physicochemical environmental conditions very well.
For manufacturing these boards, a pack of cellulose sheets impregnated in phenolic resin is usually used at the core, over which a thin sheet of wood measuring, for example, 0.5 mm in thickness, also impregnated in phenolic resin is place on each side. The less attractive, darker coloring of the core readily seeps through to the sheet of wood, contaminating it and even changing its outer appearance.
The durability, functionality, appearance of these boards depends on the number of layers of different materials which are used, the type of resin with which they regarding surface 2 are impregnated, an infinite number of combinations thus being possible and only a few providing practical results, such as the combination comprising the object of this invention.
To provide for a better comprehension of the object of this invention, a preferred embodiment thereof, which may be subject to additional changes which do not detract from the fundamentals thereof, is provided in the drawings.
Fig 1 is a cross-section diagram showing the different layers which compose the board comprising the object of this invention.
A description is provided in following of one example of a non-limiting embodiment of this invention.
The board has a front side (SA and a back side S2).
As the core (1), a number of packs (known as kraft) of absorbent cellulose sheets impregnated with phenolic resin are used.
In principle, the board is symmetrical, for which reason a description of solely one of the sides will be provided, but the object of this invention takes in the possibility that some component may not be used as a result of its not being necessary, for example, on the back side (S2) - 3 On the core (1) a very thin sheet of wood (3)impregnated in phenolic resin, measuring, for example, 0.8 mm., is set into place.
If this arrangement were to be left as is, a physicochemical exchange would take place between the sheet of wood (3) and the core (1), for example, of pigments from the core (1) to the wood (3), which can be damaging to the wood material and can even give rise to a change in coloring as regards shading and spotting, which would lead to its being a failure, given that its surface can be seen from the outside.
To prevent this, a thin sheet of cellulose (2) impregnated in melamine, which acts as a physicochemical barrier, is placed in between the core (1) and the sheet of wood (3).
On the sheet of wood (3), a pack of shades (4) comprised of thin sheeting is placed, which, according to the needs in each case, can be comprised of one to three sheets of cellulose, each one thereof being impregnated in one of the following resins: melamine, melamine-acrylic, phenol or melamine-phenol. Normally, each one of these thin sheets in said pack (4) are transparent or translucent, it being possible for them to contain pigment-extenders made of silicon dioxide, thus achieving different shades and abrasive strength.
4 One last thin, transparent, acrylic sheet (5) is added to further ensure the properties of physicochemical strength to the environmental conditions.
is also Given that the surface appearance of these boards highly important, during the board pressing process, a thin peel-off sheet (6) is placed over the last thin sheet (5) but is not incorporated into the structure of the board, but rather provides it with the surface finish. A different thin peel-off sheet (6) can be placed on the front side (S,) than on the back side (S2) - The thin peel-off sheet (6) can be chosen from among a matte siliconized finish, a polypropylene or a siliconized gloss in order to respectively achieve a matte, satin or glassy gloss finish.
The finished board is compact approximately 10 mm. in thickness.
Example I
As the core (1), a phenolic kraft 180/290 gr /M2 and the pertinent melamine sheet (2) are used.
The wood sheets (3) are 0.75 --- 0.80 mm. in thickness.
The shade pack (4) is comprised of an thin outer sheet of cellulose impregnated in phenolic resin and of a dark hue, and a thin outer sheet of cellulose impregnated in melamine with a silicon dioxide extender.
and measures The thin, outer, transparent, acrylic sheet with transmittance < 2% at a wave length of 290. 370 mm, and density 1.13 gr/ CM3.
For the peel-off sheet, a thin siliconized glass gloss-finish sheet.
The result is a board measuring approximately 2440 x 1220 x 8 mm. with both sides the equal, smooth, glossy and of a dark hue.
Example II
As the core (1), a phenolic kraft 180/290 gr /M2 and the pertinent melamine sheet (2) are used.
The wood sheets (3) are 0.75--- 0.80 mm. in thickness.
The shade pack (4) is comprised of an thin outer sheet of cellulose impregnated in phenolic resin and of a light hue, and a thin outer sheet of cellulose impregnated in melamine with a silicon dioxide extender.
The thin, outer, transparent, acrylic sheet with transmittance < 2% at a wave length of 290---370 mm, and density 1.13 gr/ CM3.
For the peel-off sheet, a thin sheet of polypropylene is used on both sides (S,) and (S2).
The result is a board measuring approximately 2440 x 1220 x 10 mm. with both sides the equal, smooth, satinfinished and of a light hue.
