Abstract

An apparatus for mixing steam with intake air of an i.c. engine, in order to improve combustion characteristics, comprises a water reservoir, a heater f for turning the water to steam, a first pipe ii, preferably an insulated hose, for conveying the steam which has a regulating unit iii, a second pipe for conveying air which has a further regulating unit iv; both pipes merging to mix the air and steam and leading to an outlet pipe which takes the air/steam mixture to an intake system of an i.c. engine. Optimum results are achieved by controlling the temperature and flow of moisture and directing the air/steam mixture continuously into the combustion chamber.

Description

ECO-S-SYSTEM TECHNICAL FIELD By controlling the flow volume of air and hot steam directly and continuously into the combustion chamber the Eco-S-System improves the running efficiency of any internal combustion engine and reduces smoke emission.
BACKGROUND The principle of introducing moisture into an internal combustion engine is not a new one.
The second world war saw many examples of military aircraft engines injected with water to improve efficiency.
Results varied. The crucial character of the principle is to determine the temperature and flow for optimum results. By controlling the temperature and flow of moisture and, Ir directing it into the intake system of an engine the Eco-S-System is able to bring significant improvements in the running efficiency of that engine.
TECHNICAL FEATURES Built to a specification based on previous researches the Eco-S-System produces and controls a volume of steam which it mixes with a controlled volume of air before the mixture is drawn into the intake system of the engine through the insulated hose.
LAYOUTIFIG 1 Assembly of the system consists of a Main Water Reservoir (a), a Level Gauge (b), a Cutoff Switch (c), a Steam Chamber (d), an Electrical/Fuse Unit (e) and, a Water Heater (f), 12/24 Volts depending on make of engine.
FLOW C1IART- FIG 2 The flow of water from the main reservoir to the heating chamber is controlled by a linkage (fig 2 (i)) measured to optimum gauge.
To prevent condensation steam produced in the heating chamber is passed through an an insulated hose (fig 2 (ii)) to a regulating unit (fig 2 (iii)) which controls the flow of steam.
At the same time air passing through a filter is controlled at a second regulating unit (fig 2 8) The control of this mixture of steam and air is critical, affecting performance of the engine.
The mixture is then channelled into the engine intake system (fig 2 (v )) from where it is drawn into the combustion chamber.
