Abstract

In the spinning of artificial threads from solutions of cellulose acetate &c. while employing a salt solution as the coagulating-bath, breakage of the thread is prevented or minimized by adding to the bath a solvent or swelling-agent for the cellulose acetate &c. Suitable additions are,-acetone, an alcohol, acetone-alcohol, formaldehyde, or formaldehyde-acetone; and a solution of calcium chloride is a convenient coagulating-bath. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 179,234.
