Abstract

233,170. Fischer, P. June 11, 1924. Lathes; chucks.-In a, clamping-device of the kind comprising a chuck with radially-movable jaws actuated by means of levers engaged by a cone which is moved axially of the chuck by a screw-threaded sleeve, the sleeve is slidably but not rotatably mounted and is actuated by a further sleeve mounted to be capable of rotation without moving axially of the chuck. As shown a pipe 28 is adapted to be held by jaws 8 in holders 7 slidablv mounted in a, chuck 4 carried at the end of a shaft 3 provided with a driving wheel. The holders are provided with recesses to receive the enlarged ends of levers 14, the other ends of which have rollers 16 for engagement with a cone 17 slidably mounted on the shaft 3. The cone is provided with a two-part ring 18 engaging an annular recess in a screwthreaded sleeve 19 slidably mounted on a bearing block 1. The sleeve 19 is engaged by an internally screw-threaded sleeve 25 provided with a hand-wheel 26 and formed with a collar 27 engaging an annular groove in the bearing block 1. The threads between the sleeve 19 and the sleeve 25 are self-braking.
