Abstract
233,031. Paterson, W. Jan. 29, 1924. Filters with loose filtering-materials. -The filtrate is collected and washwater distributed by channels formed' in the concrete or other foundation of the filter and into which hollow tiles, tubes or the like, perforated in their upper and outer surfaces and communicating with the channels through restricted openings in the lower sides, are cemented or otherwise secured. Figs. 1 and 2 show tubes d with perforations e secured in channels c and communicating therewith through shanks h. The channels c communicate through shanks g with main channels b. When air is supplied through these channels it depresses the liquid to the lower end of the shanks. These shanks may be slit at the lower end or perforated near the root. Perforations which will allow of venting may also be formed in the lower side of the tubes d. The tiles may be made in two or more parts. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement comprising perforated tiles d<1> and slabs d<2> with restricted openings.
