Abstract

212,233. Fouard, E. R. Feb. 27, 1923, [Convention date]. Filters having sheet filtering-materials. - A filter comprises a collodion film on a supporting- member, preferably perforated, with an intermediate layer of compressible porous material. Figs. 1 and 2 show two forms of filter each having a hollow perforated support a, a film c with intermediate layer b. The support a may be of metal, wood, ebonite or the like. For the porous layer, cellulose material such as linen or cotton fibres or woven tissue may be used. It may be previously incorporated with a glucose syrup containing dextrin, gum, saccharine or the like with or without formol or other antiseptic. The mixture is moulded on the support, allowed to drain and dried slowly in a stove. The element is dipped repeatedly into a collodion bath until a film of the desired thickness is secured. The sugary matter is then removed from the cellulose by means of water and the film contracts freely.
