Abstract
An electrical hot air blower that is powered by rechargeable batteries 7 or direct from the cigarette lighter of a car such that it can be used to de-ice/de-frost the windscreen and windows of a motor vehicle. A large electrical heating element 5 is incorporated in the blower to enable air at or below freezing to be heated to a sufficiently high temperature to enable the blower to melt ice rapidly. The hot air is blown out through a channelled fan shaped nozel 10 to allow a wide area of windscreen to be de-iced at one go, and incorporated in the leading edge of the fan shaped nozel is a rubber wiper blade 4 to enable the user to wipe away the melted ice/water. A thermostat 3 may be included to maintain the correct temperature.
Description
CAR WINDSCREEN DE-ICER/DEMISTER
This invention relates to a de-icer/demister for car windows.
Clear vision which contributes to road safety can only be guaranteed if all the car windows, especially the windscreen, are free of ice, snow and mist. All modern cars are able to direct warm air onto the inside of the windscreen as part of the heating system, and this will then defrost the windows and clear any misting up. Unfortunately, quick defrosting can only be achieved when the engine has reached its operating temperature and this can take several minutes.
There are many products on the market to help to clear ice and snow from the windscreen when the engine is cold, but these are either mechanical in the form of scrapers which are very inefficient, or are aerosol de-icers which quickly run out.
The present invention enables the user to quickly and efficiently clear any frost, ice, or snow from the windscreen and other car windows while the car engine is still cold.
As it is electrically powered from either rechargeable batteries or from a car cigarette lighter it can always be kept in the car ready for use, and obviously does not run out.
The present invention is a hand held portable hot air blower comprising a heating element large enough to heat air at or below freezing. an electrically driven fan, a fan shaped nozel incorporating a rubber wiper blade a rechargable batteryz or an adaptor to allow the unit to be powered from a car cigarette lighterF an on/off switch, and a thermostat to maintain a correct temperature.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a cut away side view of the hot air blower.
Figure 2 shows a view from the underneath of the blower.
Figure 3 shows a rear view of the blower.
Figure 4 shows a front view of the blower.
In the above figures:
3 is the thermostat to maintain a correct temperature.
4 is the rubber wiper blade.
5 is the heating element.
6 is the on/off switch
7 is the re-chargeable battery.
8 is the electric motor
9 is the fan to blow air over the heating element.
10 is the chanelled fan shaped nozel
Claims (4)
1. A hot air blower, electrically powered using rechargeable batteries that can be
charged from a car cigarette lighter and/or household mains socket, which uses an
electric fan to blow air over an electric heating element which is large enough to
heat up air at or below freezing, and used for the purposeof defrosting/de-icing or
demisting the windscreen and other car windows.
2. A hot air blower as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the unit is powered direct from a
car cigarette lighter using a length of electrical wire sufficient to allow the unit to
reach all the car windows inside and out.
3. A hot air blower as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the hot air is directed
through a channelled fan shaped nozel giving a wide distribution of hot air onto the
required window area.
4. A hot air blower as claimed in Claim 3 wherein there is a rubber wiper blade
attached to the straight edge of the fan shaped nozel allowing melted frost/ice to be
wiped off the window.
