Abstract
232,715. Rossmore, (W. Westenra), Lord. Nov. 17, 1924. Moving-chamber apparatus.-Relates to apparatus of the type in which a measuring chamber is brought first into register with a feed hopper to receive a charge therefrom, and its contents subsequently discharged into the pot or receptacle to be filled, and consists in using apparatus provided with several measuring chambers and in fitting a vent at the charging point for the escape of air during filling of the receptacles. The carrier C for the measuring chambers F, Fig. 3, and the tray D for jam jars are secured to a vertical shaft E rotated by any suitable means. The chambers Fare successively brought under the discharge opening B of a jam container A. a vent pipe I allowing air displaced by the material entering the chamber to escape. The jam jars are conveyed to the apparatus by a travelling belt J and are guided into holders L on the tray D by a guide K which is extended on the inside, so that filled jars are guided back on to the belt J. The chambers F are closed by shutters G provided with pins and rollers G<2> engaging a guide channel H, the ends of which are hinged to form gates leading into a second channel of greater radius, so that the shutters are operated by the guide channels. The capacity of the chamber may be varied by inserting a suitable liner. The discharge end of the vertically adjustable tube B is provided with an arcuate shoe-plate M having a sealing of vulcanized fibre to make a tight joint with the top opening of the measuring chamber, a squeegee wiping off excess material. In order that the opening of a shutter is dependent upon the presence of a jar in the charging position, the jar is adapted to engage an arm P<2> on a pivoted lever P connected by a link 0 to the gate H<1> to bring it into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 5.
