Abstract

A device for collection and disposal of animal faeces or semen, or for prevention of insemination of female animals, comprises a bag 1 openable at one end with tags 3 issuing from the region of the opening 2. The tags are such that they may be fastened to one another and such that they may bind the device to the hindquarters of an animal, and that they may bind the bag closed.

Description

COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL DEVICE FOR ANIMAL DUNG OR SEMEN This invention relates to an animal faeces (dung) or semen collection and disposal device.
A device is described for a method of collection and sanitary disposal of the faecal waste of common domestic animals. Mammalian quadrupeds are the commonly owned domestic animals, and the device is designed for such beasts, but could be adapted to other species. The intention of this invention is for use in improving public sanitation, particularly in densely populated areas, but has application also in veterinary and health sciences, and in collection of animal manure intended as fertiliser in agriculture.
The device may serve also as a barrier method of prevention of insemination of female animals or collection of semen.
According to the present invention there is provided a bag, open at one end, and furnished with tags capable of appropriately securing the bag to the animal such that faecal collection is achieved without obstructing urinary outflow. The opening of the bag is formed in such a way that it will remain open positioned to collect faecal waste from the animal, yet remain closed if closed by human intent. This is achieved by such means as a malleable, flexible or rigid material incorporated into the structure of the opening, in combination with a neck of the bag which is collapsible. The tags issue from the bag such that when the tags are fastened about the animal as described below, they act in such a way as to hold open the opening of the bag so that faeces is collected in the bag; hence they partly issue from regions of the perimeter of the opening or neck of the bag. The tags may issue also partly from other regions of the bag, so as to provide greater stability or comfort of wearing or so as to avoid obstructing urinary outflow or so as to impede insemination, and in accordance with the requirements of different species and sizes of animals. The tags are such that they may be passed around the hindquarters of the animal and secured to one another in a fashion so that the bag is appropriately held to the animal for collection of faeces. This is achieved by such means as tags which are self adhesive, sticky, tieable, hooked, linked, clipped, studded, buckled or malleable. At least two tags originate from the bag inferior to the anus of the animal, whether commonly or separately based at the bag. These tags pass ventrally and medial to the hind legs of the animal, before diverging to pass laterally and anterior to the hind legs to join one another over the rump or back of the animal. At least one tag incorporating a hole for the tail, or two tags commonly or separately based, originate from the bag superior to the anus of the animal.
This tag or these tags pass initially anteriorly and dorsally from the bag, over the posterior rump to join the other tags over the rump or back of the animal. The tags are fashioned so that they may be unfastened by human intervention and used to secure the bag closed for disposal, by tightening them around the neck or across the opening of the bag. The device functions as a barrier method to prevent insemination of female animals or to collect semen, by adjustment of the position or size of the bag so that it blocks the pathway of semen to the vagina or the uterine cervix.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1 shows the bag with the opening and tags.
Fig 2 shows a dog in lateral view wearing the bag attached by tags.
Fig 3 shows a rear view of the same Fig 4 shows the bag suitably tied closed with the tags.
Fig 5 shows a variation with tags issuing from common origins and incorporating a hole for the tail.
Referring to the drawing the invention comprises a bag 1, with an opening 2 and tags 3. The neck of the bag 6, lies adjacent to the opening 2. The neck is collapsible and the opening is rigid, flexible or malleable. The bag varies in size and material to suit the animal and purpose of collection of waste, e.g.
biodegradable for disposal, waterproof for veterinary specimen collection. The tags 3, issue at least partly from regions at the opening or neck of the bag, whether separately or from common origins.5; There may be constructed a hole 4, within a tag for the animal's tail. The tags 3, are used to fasten the device to the animal in a position so that faeces passes into the bag via the opening, hence they are fashioned to join one another securely, e.g. by adhesive surfaces, tying, clips or hooks as described above. They are able to be unfastened by human intent and refastened around the neck or across the opening of the bag to close it for disposal, fig 4.

Claims (8)

1. A device for a method of collection and disposal of animal faeces or semen, or for prevention of insemination, comprising a bag openable at one end, and tags capable of securing the device to an animal so that faecal waste is collected, or insemination is prevented or semen collected.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein tags issue at least partly from the region of the perimeter of the opening or neck of the bag. These tags thus function to hold open the bag. The tags also function to secure the bag to the hindquarters of the animal. The tags also function to fasten to one another.
Likewise the tags function to bind closed the bag. Such a tag with a hole for the tail of an animal j Iat
3. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein means for holding open the bag is provided by tags.
4. A device as claimed in claim 3 wherein means for closing the bag is provided by tags.
5. A device as claimed in claim 4 wherein means for securing the bag to the hindquarters of an animal is provided by tags.
6. A device as claimed in claim 5 wherein means for fastening the tags to one another is provided by tags that are able to be so fastened by means such as tying, linking, buckling, hooking, linking, studding, clipping or sticking with adhesive substance, or entwining malleable tags.
7. A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein means for human handling of animal faeces or semen is provided by means of such device constructed by material of variable nature, whether watertight, biodegradable, durable, rigid, flexible or collapsible.
8. A device constructed and arranged substantially as described and illustrated herein with reference to Figures 1-5 of the accompanying drawing.
