Abstract
Existing bricks which have been distorted by corrosion, over cladding, painting or other process applied to the wall surface and distorting its original appearance are refaced by removing any over cladding and chase out mortar to expose the individual bricks, coating the bricks in desired compatable material, and dispersing sand/aggregate to material to bind to the surface creating the desired finish to the bricks. Repoint to complete the process.
Description
IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO BUILDINGS
The invention relates to a method of refacing individual bricks of existing buildings to provide a building of a Dredeternined appearance.
lany existing buildings are in a state of disrepair in particular external walls where the facing on the brick work is completely corroded.
There are instances where the brickwork is completely distorted having had paint, renders and various cladding systems covering all the original wall surface, hence losing the appearance of the building as it originally appeared.
Accordingly there is a need to provide a neons whereby a building cm be reinstated to its original brick appearance.
The invention therefore provides a method of refacing individual bricks coenprisin; remove any render or cladding rake out mortar joints to expose individual bricks apply material that hardens when dry to individual bricks; disperse sand/aggrezates to brick covering material before the said material hardens so as to enable the sand/ a;regate to bind to it.
Preferably the covering material is impregnated with a pre-selected pigment.
Preferably, when the material has dried the wall is repointed in conventional manner.
Using the above method it will be possible to achieve a sand/aggregate finish to brick.
The aforementioned procedure must be adhered to as specified as if the aggregate was merely added to the substance before application it would dissolve nd become an integral part of it, where as the above stated process enables the aggregate/sand to bind to the surface without being absorbed to give the desired brick effect.
Claims (1)
1. A method of wall restoration comprising:
a) Apply material which hardens when dried to
individual bricks.
b) Disperse sand/aggregates before material
hardens so as to bind to the surface of
the covering mix.
2. A method according to Claim 1 wherein the
material is any which will adhere to the
brick face,
5. A method according to any preceding claim
wherein the bricks are covered individually
so as to expose joints for later repointing.
4. A method accordin to any preceding claim
wherein the coverin m-terial can be
impregnated with at least one pre-selected pigment.
5. A method according to any Drecedin; claim
wherein after application of the system the
wall is repointed.
