Abstract

230,564. Roberts, S. C. H. Dec. 20, 1923. Tone-arm joints.-The vertically hinged supporting socket 3, Fig. 1, of a gramophone tonearm 2 comprises a T-piece which is placed in position through an opening 38 in a tubular standard 15, the upper branch 13 of the T-piece having a bearing 14 at the top of the standard. The corresponding bearing for the lower branch 16 is formed at 17 in the end of a bush 18, which is removable through the bottom of the standard and which is held in position by a set-screw 19. The upper end of the standard has a rubber ring 20 for engagement with the inlet of the amplifier. The tone arm 2 is pivoted, so that it can be lifted vertically, by trunnions 4, Fig. 2, which are pressed radially outwards through diametrically arranged holes in the spherical end 5 of the tonearm by a circular spring 8 to engage holes 9 in a grooved flange 10 on the inlet of the T-piece 3. The trunnions 4 have heads engaging an internal groove 7 in the end 5 in which the spring <.>8 also fits. The tone-arm may be removed from the, socket 3 by pressing the trunnions 4 inwardly against the spring 8 by a suitable implement. The tone-arm may be rotated about its longitudinal axis, after pushing the trunnions in, until these engage a second pair of holes 12 arranged in a line at right-angles to the holes 9 so that the sound-box is held away from the record.
