[Class 40 (ii).] Flectric pick-ups, supporting.-A mounting for an electric gramophone pick-up, comprising a pivoted carrier arm, is provided with a cam coacting with an abutment, whereby, when the arm is rotated about its longitudinal axis, together with the pick-up, the pick-up is lifted bodily above its normal playing position on a record, means being provided for retaining the pick-up in the raised position. The abutment, which is provided on a rotatable support for the carrier arm, also serves as a rest for the arm, when the latter has been swung outwardly away from the turntable. In the construction shown, the pick-up b is carried by an arm a, which is mounted to rotate about its axis i in an extension k of a ring c, constructed as described in Specification 344,136. This ring is pivotally supported by pins h on a member g, which is rotatable on a vertical column d, and is constructed as described in Specification 344,152. An arm l extends from the member g below a cam f fixed on the inner end of the arm a. When the pick-up needle is in the playing position, a flat part of the cam is adjacent to but clear of the end o of the arm l, but on rotating the pick-up and arm a about the axis i, the cam f engages the part o and raises the pick-up bodily. A resilient stirrup p, p<1> surrounds the cam f, and its limb p<1> has a projection q which snaps into one or other of two recesses on the cam, thus retaining the pick-up in either the operative or the raised position. If the arm a is swung outwards, with the pick-up needle in the normal position but away from the turntable, the part o may be made to serve to support the arm and pickup by allowing the flat portion of the cam to rest thereon.
