Abstract

A tyre mask in the form of a sectional flat ring is made in a sufficient width to cover the side profile of a car or commercial vehicle road tyre. This flat ring has an adhesive film to allow application and adhesion to the tyre. To allow accurate abutment to the road wheel rim edge the sectional flat ring is shaped to match the specific circumference of a given size of road wheel. When the road wheel is being painted this tyre mask protects the tyre from paint, and is removed and discarded when painting has been completed.

Description

TYRE MASKING DEVICE mk. 2 This invention relates to a paint masking device for vehicle road wheels.
Vehicle road wheels need to be painted regularly.
When the wheel disc is being refinished by spray or brush painting, paint applied to the wheel also contacts the tyre area. This masking device prevents this occurence.
According to the present invention there is provided a sectional flat ring of sufficient width to cover the side profile of car or commercial vehicle road tyre.
The sections of this ring are made to overlap when installed on The vehicle tyre to provide complete coverage. This sectional ring has a self adhesive surface on the side to be applied to the tyre. This self adhesive surface has a removable protective film.
The protective film is removed and this tyre masking devise is applied to the vehicle tyre protecting the rubber from paint overspray.
The sectional flat ring is accurately cut to match the circurnference edge of a given size of road wheel, to fl!jtafe accurate abutment to the wheel rirn edge.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which : Figure 1 shows the sectional flat ring in plan view.
Referring to the drawing, the tyre mask comprises one sectional flat ring shaped as in figure 1, of sufficient width to cover the side profile of a car or commercial vehicle tyre.
This sectional flat ring has an adhesive coating applied to the side making contact with the tyre.
This coating is protected before use by a protective film which is removed before the tyre mask is applied to the tyre. The tyre mask is made in specific diameters to fit the sizes of road wheels now in use.
When painting of the wheel is completed the sectional flat ring tyre mask is removed from the tyre wall and discarded.

Claims (3)

1 A sectional flat ring of sufficient width to protect a vehicle road tyre from paint overspray or splashes.
2 A sectional flat ring as clairned in Claim 1 wherein an adhesive coating to one side enables the sectional ring to be adhered to the road tyre.
3 A sectional flat ring as clairned in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein a rernovable protective film protects the adhesive surface before use.
