Abstract

A flat ring, e.g. a tyre mask is pre-formed to match the side profile of a car or commercial vehicle road tyre. This flat ring has an adhesive film protected before use by a removable film to allow application and adhesion to a road tyre. To allow accurate abutment to the road wheel rim edge the flat ring has a cut perpendicular to its circumference edge. When the road wheel is being painted this tyre mask protects the tyre from paint, and is removed and discarded when painting has been completed.

Description

TYRE MASKING DEVICE This invention relates to a paint masking device for vehicle road wheels.
Vehicle road wheels need to be painted regularly.
When the wheel disc is being refinished by spray painting, paint applied to the wheel also contacts the tyre area. This masking device prevent this occurrence.
According to the present invention there is provided a flat ring pre-formed to the side profile of a vehicle road tyre, of sufficient width to cover the side of the tyre. This ring has a self adhesive film on the side to be applied to the tyre. This self adhesive surface has a removable protective film.
The protective film is removed and this tyre masking device is applied to the vehicle tyre protecting the rubber from paint overspray.
The flat ring has one cut perpendicular to its circumference edge to facilitate accurate abutment to the wheel rim edge.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1/3 shows the flat ring in plan view with perpendicular cut.
Figure 2,3 shows the flat ring in sectional view.
Figure 3/3 shows the flat ring applied to a car road wheel protecting the tyre from paint overspray.
Referring to the drawing, the tyre mask comprises one flat ring shaped as in figure 1/3, preformed in the profile, and of sufficient width to fit a car or commercial vehicle tyre as shown in figure 3/3 This flat ring has an adhesive coating applied to the side making contact with the tyre, marked 4 in figure 2/3. This coating is protected before use by a protective film which is removed before the tyre mask is applied to the tyre. The tyre mask is made in specific diameters to fit the sizes of road wheels now in use.
When painting of the wheel is completed the flat ring tyre mask is removed from the tyre wall and discarded.

Claims (4)

  1. A A flat ring, pre-formed to match the side profile of a vehicle road tyre, and of sufficient width to protect the tyre from paint overspray or splashes.
  2. 2 A flat ring as claimed in Claim 1, wherein an adhesive coating to one side enables the ring to be adhered to the road tyre.
  3. 3 A flat ring as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein a removable protective film protects the adhesive film before use.
  4. 4 A flat ring as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the ring is provided with a cut perpendicular to its circumterence edge.
