Abstract

230,519. Hampson, J. J., and Kelsall, J. W. Nov. 12, 1923. Coating fabrics in long lengths. -Machines of the kind described in Specification 127,073 are provided with a tiltable tank for each of the lower bowls, a guide roller 103 between the tanks, a gear wheel 32 on the main driving shaft 31 for driving the upper bowl 1, and improved means for supporting and driving the lower bowls. Each end of the spindle 20 of the bowl 2 is carried by a bearing block 21 adapted to be moved along a guideway 22 by means of a hand-wheel 29 and screwed spindle. The bowl 3 can be similarly moved by means of a hand wheel 29<1> The bearings are supported on separate bed plates fixed to the main frame 7. Clutch mechanism, operated by a lever 40, is provided whereby one or both of the lower bowls may remain stationary while the bowl 1 revolves. Adjustable doctors 58, 72, and a cleaning knife 80 are provided. Various uses for double or single stiffening, single or double friction, padding &c. are described.
