Abstract
230,510. Shannon, D. S. B. Sept. 18, 1923. Combined transmitting and receiving arrangements; aerials and like radiating and receiving conductors.-Receiving and transmitting systems adapted to operate without the use of an extended aerial system, are characterized by the provision of two or more series condensers shunted across the main oscillatory circuit which takes the place of the ordinary aerial. Fig. 1 shows a combined receiving and transmitting installation. The main inductance 1 and capacity 8 are shunted by two condensers 13, 14, the earth lead 15 being connected as shown. The input circuit 17, 20 of the receiver is similarly shunted by the condensers 21, 22 the midpoint being earthed through a lead 23, as before. The two earthing points may be connected together through a lead 24 and condenser 25 in order to increase the effective size of both oscillatory circuits and to stabilize the system. Or the lower ends of the inductances may be connected by a lead 26 earthed at 27. The complete installation may be operated from a combined microphone and receiver mounted on a common holder as in an ordinary telephone head-set, the transmission and reception circuits being energized as required by means of a small switch located in the hand grip. Two shunting condensers 13, 14 or 21, 22 may be replaced by a single three-plate condenser the middle plate of which is earthed. Specification 217,259 is referred to.
