Abstract
A baking kit comprises a number of releasably interconnectable panels 1 of different shapes and/or sizes which can be combined into various loops of different shaped baking moulds. Each panel 1 is provided with projections 4 which can be interdigitated with the projections 4 on the adjacent panels 1. The projections 4 have a hollow core 3, 5 whereby a pin 6 can be inserted through the cores to lock the panels 1 together and withdrawn to release the panels 1. The panels 1 can be rectangular, curved or V-shaped. The panels are formed from stainless steel or tin and are coated with a non-stick plastic product.
Description
The present invention relates to a a baking kit for producing a range of moulds to create food products in a variety of shapes.
It is normal to make bake cakes in a mould such as a baking tin in order to shape the cake.
Such baking tins are usually round or square. There are baking tins which have more ornate shapes such as the shape of a "flower" or "castle" to make cakes for special occasions, but they are expensive relative to the number of times they are needed, and it is expensive to have a range of baking tins with ornate shapes. Also such baking tins in general are quite bullcy and occupy a lot of cupboard space.
The invention seeks to provide a baking kit which avoids these difficulties.
According to the present invention there is provided a baking kit comprising a plurality of releasable interlocking panels which can be formed into a continuous loop of different shapes to make different shapes of baking moulds, the panels of each kit being formed in at least two different shapes and/or sizes. Preferably the panels are formed from metal such as tin or stainless steel optionally coated with a "non-stick" product such as Teflon. The panels may have at each end first and second interlocking members respectively so that the first member of one panel interlocks with the second member of another panel.
In one embodiment the panels are formed from three different general shapes, some shapes in different sizes. The panels may be rectangular and substantially planar in one or more sizes.
The panels may be rectangular and curved. The panels may be V-shaped.
In one embodiment ofthe invention the first and second interlocking members are projections forming teeth which interdigitate each having a hollow core therethrough, whereby a pin can be inserted through the core to lock the members together and withdrawn to release the members apart. Preferably the teeth projections are formed from rolling projections at the ends ofthe panels into cylinders to provide the hollow core.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a rectangular planar panel of the invention,
Figure ib shows a rectangular curved, semicircular, panel of the invention,
Figure lc shows a V-shaped panel ofthe invention, and
Figure 2 shows a cake mould in the shape of a "heart" made from a baking kit of the invention formed from one or more ofthe panels of Figures 1a,lb and ic.
Referring to Figure 1 there is shown a rectangular planar panel 1 formed from metal such as tin or stainless steel. At one end of the panel 1 is a first interlocking member in the form of a tooth 2 formed from a projection extending from the main body of the panel 1 which has been rolled into a cylindrical shape to form a hollow core 3. At the other end ofthe panel 1 is a second interlocking member 4 in the form of two teeth 4a,4b formed from two projections extending from the main body panel 1 each of which has been rolled into a cylindrical shape to form a hollow core 5. Two such panels 1 can be releasably interlocked by interdigitating the teeth 2 and 4a,4b (as shown in dotted lines) and inserting a pin 6 through the cores 3 and 5.
Pin 6 may have a loop 7 at one end thereof for use as a handle to facilitate insertion and withdrawal ofthe pin in and out ofthe cores 3 and 5.
Figure ib shows a rectangular panel 1 which is curved into a semicircular shape rather than planar but uses the same interlocking end members. Like parts are designated with the same reference numerals as Figure la.
Figure 1 C shows a rectangular panel 1 which is bent into a V-shape rather than planar but uses the same interlocking end members. Like parts are designated with the same reference numerals as Figure 1 a. The arms forming the V-shape may be at any desired angle but it is preferred that the angle in degrees in divisible into 360 by a whole number, i.e. 30, 45, 60, 72 or 90 degrees.
Figure 2 shows an exploded view of a "heart-shaped" mould made in a continuous loop from two of the planar panels of Figure la, two ofthe panels of Figure ib, and one panel of Figure Ic.
The kit ofthe invention may be made up of a number of panels having at least two different shapes, such as illustrated in Figures la,lb,lc. Alternatively the kit could be made up from a number of panels of two different sizes, e.g. two different sizes of rectangular planar panels of
Figure la. However it is preferred that the kit has different sizes and shapes. A typical kit might comprise three different general shapes, 2 semicircular panels, 4 generally V-shaped panels (2 V-shaped at 60 degree angles, 2 V-shaped at 72 degree angles), and 12 planar rectangular panels (6 planar rectangular panels of one size and 6 planar rectangular panels of another size).
Although only one mould shape is shown in Figure 2, it will be appreciated that all sorts of different shaped moulds can be made using the panels described above and also with panels of shapes not specifically mentioned above.
If desired the kit could also include a base plate upon which different shaped moulds can be made up and placed. Such a base plate could include a plurality of spaced apart holes to receive the ends of the pins 6 in order to secure panels in their positions relative to each other.
The panels may be formed from metal such as tin or stainless steel optionally coated with a "non-stick" product such as Teflon.
The method by which the panels releasably interlock could be different to that shown in Figure la. Any suitable method could be used.
The kit of the invention may be sold with the panels in a suitable container. When not in use, the panels can be placed in the container for ease of storage of the kit in a compact state.
The kit enables a person to create a baking mould in a variety of shapes without the need to purchase a variety of moulds.
The Kit of the invention can be dimensioned to be used for baking a variety of foodstuffs, such as bread, cakes, pizzas and the like.
Further modifications of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
