Abstract

The cable support bracket comprises a substantially 'U'-shaped hook 2 for receiving cable, the hook having parallel arms 3, 4 extending therefrom. A clamp 5 is secured to one arm of the hook, for clamping the bracket to a scaffold tube.

Description

Cable Support Bracket The present invention is concerned with a cable support bracket and in particular to a cable support bracket which can be used on scaffolding or the like.
In factories or in construction sites it is necessary to supply electrical power to power tools by means of cables or wires or the like. Frequently such cables can become entangled and can be a safety hazard as workers passing by can often trip over cables lying in the walkways of scaffolding for example, which can cause serious injuries or even death.
Thus it is the purpose of the present invention to alleviate such difficulties and to provide a support bracket for cables which maintains the cables in a safe position so as to alleviate potential safety hazards.
Accordingly, there is provided by the present invention a cable support bracket comprising a hook member shaped and dimensioned to receive cable, and integral with or secured to said hook member, clamp means for clamping said bracket to a scaffold post. Thus, advantageously, any cable which may be present on walkways can be safely kept within the bracket away from workers passing by. The bracket may advantageously, be kept in a designated cable securing position on a scaffolding post.
Advantageously, the hook member is dimensioned to receive a plurality of cables. The hook member is preferably of a suitably visible nature such as a luminous colour, or striped thereby providing a clear visual warning of its location.
Preferably, the hook member comprises a substantially 'U'-shaped, 'J'-shaped or channel-shaped portion having two substantially parallel arms.
Preferably, the clamp means is provided on one of said parallel arms. Preferably, the clamp means comprises at least one clamp comprising a base portion having a concave arcuate surface, a pivotal jaw also having a concave arcuate surface arranged to face the arcuatesurface of the base portion, the jaw being mounted adjacent one end thereof to said base portion, a threaded nut arrangement to secure the other end of the jaw to the base portion to permit a scaffold tube or post to be gripped between said arcuate surfaces. Thus advantageously, such a clamp or clamps can be secured anywhere along a length of a scaffold post. Preferably, at least two such clamps are provided on the bracket.
Preferably a plurality of brackets according to the invention are provided along a length of scaffold post to maintain the cable even more securely.
The invention may be more clearly understood from the following description, in which reference is made to the accompanying drawing.
Referring to the drawing, there is illustrated a cable support bracket generally designated by the reference numeral 1, comprising a substantially 'U'-shaped hook 2 for holding cable (not shown), the hook having parallel arms 3 and 4. A clamp 5 is secured to the arm 4, for clamping the bracket to a scaffold tube (not shown). The clamp 5 has an arcuate base 6 and an arcuately shaped pivotal jaw 7 facing the base 6, and which are secured together by a nut 8 and bolt 9, with the scaffold tube being gripped between the base 6 and jaw 7.
The clamp 5 may be secured to the hook 2 by screws (not shown) passing through pre-drilled holes in the clamp 5 and into hook 2.
The clamp may be secured in an orientation perpendicular to that shown in the drawing depending on the orientation of the scaffold post to which it is to be secured.
Cable (not shown) can then be placed within the hook portion to keep it from causing any obstruction in walkways on a scaffolding structure.
