Abstract
A motor control center of the type including a short circuit protective device such as a circuit breaker or fusible disconnect and a motor starter for interacting with an electric motor includes a wiring access cabinet at the top of the control center. The multi-phase conductors (6,7,8) within the access cabinet are protected by means of a pair of slidably-arranged access doors (3,4). The doors are arranged in a different position along the front of the access cabinet to access each of the individual phase conductors, and are made of electrically non-conductive material.
Description
MOTOR CONTROL CENTER
A non-conductive sliding panel is used as a protective barrier to isolate the horizontal bus in the motor-control center product line. The sliding panel isolates the horizontal bus in the motor control center to increase safety during inspection of the electrical joints and improve both access and safety during maintenance.
The existing sliding panel is composed of 13 parts.
These 13 sliding panel parts are in close proximity to main electrical bus and include conductive components. Special insulative barriers are incorporated to improve safety during inspection and maintenance. The existing sliding panel design for Motor Control Center is similar to that which is described in US Patent No. 3628098 entitled "CABINET FOR ELECTRICAL CONTROLS WITH ENCLOSED DOORS" which describes the separate arrangement of the high voltage contactors and low voltage equipment. One purpose of the invention is to provide means of improving safety while reducing the number of parts. Accordingly, the nonconductive three piece sliding panel eliminates the need for a special insulative barrier and reduce the number of parts while providing improved access for inspection and maintenance.
Figure 1 shows the placement of the non-conductive sliding panel within the existing motor control center as described in the aforementioned US Patent No. 3628098. The three-piece sliding panel assembly, item 1, is positioned inside the motor control center in the upper portion, item 2, known as the top wire-way cover. The sliding panel is made of three molded parts. The sliding panel is located in front of the horizontal busbars, items 6, 7 and 8 which are used to distribute power between motor control sections. Figure 2 shows the sliding panel assembly, item 1 of Figure 1, with the supporting frame, item 5 and individual sliding panels 3 and 4. the supporting frame, 5, holds the sliding panels 3 and 4 in place while providing for the panels to move slidably within the frame.
The supporting frame includes integral guides and stops for the panels. Figure 3 shows the sliding panels, item 3 and 4 within the non-conductive supporting frame and the horizontal busbars items 6, 7 and 8.
