Abstract

A flat meat cake or burger made substantially from minced or ground meat with a hole vertically through the centre of it to allow heat application from the interior surface as well as the exterior. The product created will have improved cooking and food safety features.

Description

MEAT CAKE WITH HOLE This invention relates to a flat meat cake with a hole through the centre.
Flat cakes of minced or ground meat are well known in their fried or grilled form. They are usually referred to as beefburgers, hamburgers or simply burgers.
They comprise a flat, solid cake of minced or ground meat. In this form, however, they have shortcomings. In order for the product to be full cooked through it is necessary to either make the cake thin relative to it's width or to apply a greater amount of heat to a thicker cake.
If a full cook is not achieved the cake will remain raw in the middle. In this condition the cake will be rendered unpalatable and pathogenic organisms will remain active as will toxins otherwise destroyed by heat.
According to the present invention a vertical hole will be left through the centre of the cake.
This will allow heat to penetrate from interior surfaces as well as exterior ones. A more rapid and thorough cook will be achieved and the part of the cake which provides the greatest difficulty in heating will be removed.
A specific embodiment will now be described by means of the accompanying Drawing No.1.

Claims (2)

1. A flat meat cake or burger made substantially from minced or ground meat with a vertical hole through the centre from one flat surface to the other.
2. A meat cake substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying Drawing No.1.
