Abstract

A frame or box 1 contains a number of rigid or semi-rigid sheets 3 for the storage or display of written or other information, the frame being provided with a tongue 6 or adhesive for attachment to a clipboard or other fixture. The individual sheets 3 are slidably retained in side channels 2 so that they may be slid into view for use by grasping a tab 4. The sheets include stops 5, which in conjunction with obstructions in the channels, limit the travel of the sheets.

Description

Retractable Sheet Note Pad The invention relates to a retractable sheet note pad.

In situations where reference has to be made to written information, or where there is a need to record information in writing, a clipboard or kneeboard may be used to hold the material in convenient and secure manner. One such situation is in the piloting of aircraft where charts and other reference material needs to be constantly available. It is also often necessary to make a written note of new information. In this and in similar situations, space is often limited and a compact, robust and orderly form of information storage is required. Particular difficulty may be experienced in storing and accessing material only occasionally required or in recording new information. Additional sheets of paper or flip-over note pads are often untidy, inconvenient to operate or precluded by lack of space or are otherwise undesirable.

The present invention of a retractable sheet note pad addresses this problem by providing space for the storage and display of pre-recorded material, or for the recording of new material.

The invention comprises a number of sheets of a rigid or semi-rigid material contained within a frame or box. Individual sheets may be slid into view for the reading or recording of material. The frame is provided with means for attachment to a clipboard or other object, such as a vehicle dashboard, shop counter or similar.

A specific example of this invention is now described with reference to figures 1 and 2 attached.

Figure 1 shows the body or frame ofthe note pad (1) which is fitted with or incorporates side channels (2) to retain a number of slideable rigid or semi-rigid sheets (3) of, for example, plastic, metal, card or wood, each fitted with a tab (4) by means of which the sheet may be slid from its position of rest within the frame.

The form of one such sheet is shown in figure 2. The tab (4) is shown, as are stops (5) which, in conjunction with obstructions provided at either end of one or both side channels (2), serve to contain and limit the travel of the sheet when slid.

The frame in this example is bent at point A to provide a tongue (6) by means of which the pad may be attached to lie at the back of a clipboard or kneeboard. Any other method of attachment, such as an adhesive pad, may be substituted to suit the circumstances of use.

When in position, the tabs (4) are visible to the user and access to view the face of the sheet may be gained by grasping a tab and sliding the sheet out to the limit of itstravel. After use the sheet may be returned to its storage position.

Claims

1. A retractable sheet note pad comprising a number of rigid or semi-rigid sheets of material contained within a frame or box from which the sheets may be slid into a position in which one or other face is accessible for the viewing of pre-recorded material, or for the addition of new material, the frame or box being provided with means for attachment to a clipboard or other object or fixture.

2. A retractable sheet note pad as described in Claim 1 where the sheets are constrained to be captive within the frame or box and have a limited range of travel when slid.

3. A retractable sheet note pad substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 - 2 of the accompanying drawing.
