A TTORNE Y5 Patented Feb. 14, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EDWARD GREENE, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY DOCUMENT RECORD DEVICE Application filed April 27,
same, and which may be caused to provide a ready index and an ample record of information desired to be recorded.
The present application is a continuation in part of my application Serial No. 573,- 423, filed November 6, 1931, for record caution signal.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the drawing forming part of this specification,
Figure l is aview in rear elevation of an assembly of the parts for forming a device embodying features of the invention;
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the finished device after the parts of Figure 1 have been folded to their final form;
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the device of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on the line 4-4: of Figure 8, looking in the direction of the arrows and showing the device gripping a sheet.
The device comprises three principal parts, namely, a metallic leaf spring 1, an inner cover 2, and an outer cover 3. The inner cover member 2 is desirably made of a soft friction material such as paper or leather. This member covers the entire inner face of the leaf spring 1 and extends beyond the boundaries of the leaf spring. The outer cover member 3 is formed of paper or other suitable material adapted to be printed or written upon. The outer memher 3 is larger than the inner cover memher 2 and desirably extends beyond all the boundaries of the inner cover member.
The outer and inner cover members are adhesively secured to the spring 1 and to one another. The assembled parts as seen in Figure 1 are then folded as seen in Fig- 1932. Serial No. 607,743.
The outer cover member is also desirably of a distinctive color, it being the purpose to make various devices in various colors. For example, those devices bearing one set of printed legends may be red, those bearing another set of legends may be blue, and those bearing still another set may be yellow. The user is thus enabled to select readily the particular type of device suitable for his purpose and is enabled simply by the color of the device attached to a sheet to know the general class of information which the record device signifies. By reason of the distinctive colors the user may efiect a classification for filing or he may discriminate at a glance when selecting documents of a particular class from an unassorted group. In other words, the color of the card may serve as an index of the class of information borne by the card.
I have described what I believe to be the best embodiment of my invention. I do not Wish, however, to be confined to the embodiment shown, but What I desire to cover by Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A record device for use with documents, comprising a folded spring clip and a member secured to and covering said clip, said member consisting of relatively stiff material adapted to be Written or printed upon and comprising a portion extending laterally from the clip, said member having an unobstructed face exposed for receiving indicia.
2. A record device for use With documents comprising a folded spring clip and a folded outer information bearing covering member secured thereto, said covering consisting of a relatively stifi' material adapted to be Written or printed upon and being substantially longer and Wider than the clip, the marginal portions of the member being extended and the front fold of the said member being substantially longer than the rear fold thereof.
3. A record device comprising a folded card adapted to embrace a sheet margin, and a leaf spring, sharply folded to form a flat clip, aflixed Within the fold of the card and covered and concealed by the card.
4. A record device comprising a spring clip, an outer paper cover and an inner nonmetallic cover of friction material, the outer and inner covers being united and forming a pocket which encloses the spring clip.
5. A record device comprising a leaf spring having its opposite ends juxtaposed and adapted to grip a sheet between them, an inner covering member of non-metallic material covering the entire inner face of the spring and projecting beyond the boundaries of the same, and an information bearing outer member completely covering and concealing the spring and the inner covering member, and adhesively imited to the margins of the inner covering member.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature of this specification.
EDWARD GREENE.
