Description
A VESSEL
The present invention relates to a vessel for containing liquids. In particular, it relates to a vessel for containing liquids and also having means for storing an object such as a confectionery product.
Vessels containing liquids, such as water, are used by sports people when bicycling, running, etc.
Bicycles often have means for attaching vessels such as drinking bottles to their frames so that each vessel is easily and quickly accessible for the cyclist whilst he/she is pedalling.
The present invention seeks to provide an improved vessel for containing liquids.
According to the present invention there is provided a vessel comprising a first chamber for holding a liquid and a second chamber for storing an object such as a confectionery product, wherein the first chamber surrounds at least part of the second chamber.
Optionally, the vessel is transparent such that a confectionery product stored in the second chamber is visible.
The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of a vessel according to the present invention; and
Figure 2 is a side view of the vessel attached to a section of a bicycle frame.
Referring to Figure 1, the vessel is a plastic, generally cylindrical drinking bottle 2 having a first chamber 4 for holding a liquid 6, and a second chamber 8 for storing an object such as confectionery product 10.
The first chamber 4 has an aperture located at the neck 12 of the bottle, and this aperture is sealed by a stopper 14. The second chamber 8 is also generally cylindrical and extends from the base of the bottle towards the neck thereof. The second chamber has an aperture 15 at the base of the bottle, and this aperture is sealed by a stopper 16. The second chamber therefore forms, in effect, an elongate recess in the base of the bottle, the recess being mostly surrounded by the first chamber.
Figure 2 shows the drinking bottle attached to a section of a bicycle frame 18 by brackets 20 which engage stoppers 14 and 16. The brackets can be manipulated to engage or release the bottle to or from the frame. Thus, when the cyclist is riding the bicycle, he/she can drink the liquid contained in the first chamber 4 through the neck 12 of the bottle, and can remove the confectionery product 10 stored in the second chamber 8 through the aperture 15. Alternatively, the confectionery product may be accessed through an aperture in the side or top of the vessel, for example.
The bottle is optionally transparent so that the confectionery product is visible and is thus on display for advertising purposes.
In warmer climates, the liquid in the first chamber may help to keep the confectionery product cool, particularly if the bottle is insulated. Thus, a chocolate bar, for example, which is stored in the second chamber, should not melt.
Stopper 14 may be replaced by a hinged lid or spout, for example. Stopper 16 may be replaced by any other means, such as a hinged lid, a swivel flap or a piece of adhesive tape, for example.
Although a drinking bottle has been described, the vessel could be, inter alia, a vacuum flask; the second chamber could then be insulated from the first chamber to prevent heat from any hot drink in the first chamber melting an object such as a chocolate bar stored in the second chamber.
The vessel may be disposable or re-usable. It may of course be of any desired shape and is not limited to containers for use on a bicycle or other vehicle.
Claims (9)
1. A vessel comprising a first chamber for holding a liquid and a second chamber for storing an object such as a confectionery product, wherein the first chamber surrounds at least part of the second chamber.
2. A vessel as claimed in Claim 1, which is transparent such that an object stored in the second chamber is visible.
3. A vessel as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the first chamber is accessed from the top of the vessel and the second chamber is accessed from the base of the vessel.
4. A vessel as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the first chamber and the second chamber are generally cylindrical.
5. A vessel as claimed in Claim 4, wherein the second chamber is elongate and extends longitudinally from the base of the vessel towards the top thereof.
6. A vessel as claimed in Claim 4 or Claim 5, wherein the second chamber is coaxial with the first chamber.
7. A vessel as claimed in any preceding claim, which is a drinking bottle.
8. A vessel for containing liquids substantially as hereinbefore described, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
9. A vessel as claimed in any preceding claim, in combination with means for securing the vessel to the frame of a bicycle.
