Abstract
Apparatus for applying an extrudible product comprises a nozzle 1 and a container 3, both known per se. To facilitate access by the nozzle to difficult places, a tubular extension 2 is connectable between the nozzle 1 and the container 3. The extension 2 may be made flexible by inclusion of a bellows-form section 9. Alternatively, the nozzle 1 can be at least partly flexible. <IMAGE>
Description
NOZZLE FOR CONTAINER
This invention relates to nozzles for containers of extrudible products. It is known to provide a straight, relatively short, substantially rigid, nozzle, usually of thermoplastics that screws onto an outlet neck of a container of, for example, builders' sealant. After the container has been fitted to an extrusion gun, the sealant is extruded through the nozzle to the desired surface.
However, this has the disadvantage that with the straight, short, rigid nozzle, a bulky container and the gun, there is a limitation on where the sealant can be applied. For instance, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to apply the sealant in confined spaces or round corners.
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a combination comprising a container for an extrudible product, an outlet from said container for said product, and nozzle means connected to said container and communicating with said outlet for leading said product from said outlet, wherein at least part of said nozzle means comprises access-facilitating means for facilitating application of the extruded product.
The advantage of the present invention is that it is possible to use the nozzle means in a larger number of situations than the known nozzle.
In a first embodiment of the invention, at least part of said nozzle means is flexible. The nozzle means may consist of a nozzle, or a nozzle and a tubular extension, the extension being inserted between the nozzle and the container. The nozzle and/or the extension may include a flexible tubular part. The advantage of this embodiment is that it is possible to use the nozzle means where the product needs to be led round a corner.
In a second embodiment of the invention, said nozzle means comprises a nozzle and a tubular extension, the extension being inserted between the nozzle and the container. The advantage of this embodiment is that it is possible to use the nozzle means when the product needs to be led further.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective exploded view of an apparatus for applying an extrudible product.
Referring to the drawing, the tubular nozzle 1 is known Per J@, iS is substantially rigid and of thermoplastics, with a tapered applicator part 4 and a sleeve part 6 with an internal thread 7 that conventionally co-operates with an external thread 11 of a tubular outlet 12 of a per se known tubular container 3 for an extrudible product, e.g.
builders' sealant. However, in this example of the invention, a tubular extension piece 2 of thermoplastics is insert able between the known nozzle 1 and the known container 3, and the thread 7 co-operates with the thread 8 of the flexible extension piece 2. This piece 2 is substantially rigid except for a bellows-form section 9 that allows resilient flexible distortion of the piece 2. The piece 2 has an internal thread 10 that co-operates with the thread 11 of the known container 3 which is substantially rigid and of thermoplastics. The container 3 includes a body 13 which is cylindrical and through which the product is forced by a conventional extrusion gun to which the container 3 would be fitted in a conventional manner.
The body 13 contains the product and is closed at its end opposite the nozzle 1 by a plug which is driven along the body 13 by a plunger of the gun to force the product through the nozzle 1, or through the piece 2 and the nozzle 1 when the piece 2 is in use.
Claims (8)
1. A combination comprising a container for an extrudible product, an outlet from said container for said product, and nozzle means connected to said container and communicating with said outlet for leading said product from said outlet, wherein at least part of said nozzle means comprises accessfacilitating means for facilitating application of the extruded product.
2. A combination according to claim 1, wherein said access-facilitating means is provided by at least part of said nozzle means being flexible.
3. A combination according to claim 2, wherein said npzzle means consists of a nozzle, and at least part of said nozzle is flexible.
4. A combination according to claim 1, wherein said access-facilitating means is provided by said nozzle means comprising a nozzle and a tubular extension, the extension being inserted between the nozzle and the container.
5. A combination according to claim 4, wherein at least part of said tubular extension is flexible.
6. A combination according to claim 3 or 5, wherein such flexible part is of a bellows formation.
7. A combination according to claim 4 or 5, or claim 6 as appended to claim 5, wherein said tubular extension has external screw threading and internal screw threading at respective opposite ends thereof for co-operating with internal screw threading and external screw threading of said nozzle and said container, respectively.
8. An apparatus for applying an extrudible product, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
