Abstract

Contacts. - In electric motor starters, controllers &c. the movable contacts are in the form of flat segmental plates A mounted on but insulated from the rotary surfaces in planes perpendicular to the axis of the operating shaft which are engaged by relatively fixed contacts consisting of studs C working in holes in fixed brackets D carried by bars E. Springs Fare arranged to press the enlarged heads of the studs C into engagement with the sides of the plates A, the studs and plates being suitably bevelled so that they may slide freely over each other. The shanks of the studs C have a certain amount of play where they pass through the brackets D to enable the contact surfaces of the fixed and movable contacts to come into alignment.
