Abstract
A frame tube connector comprises a body 1 provided with two parallel holes 12, 13 for receiving frame tubes 21, 20, the body 1 also having transverse holes 100, 100', 101 which can be aligned with holes 210, 200 in the frame tubes 21, 20 in order to receive bolts 10, 10', 14 securable by nuts 11, 11, 15. The connector is used to construct a wheeled walker for disabled persons. <IMAGE>
Description
FRAME TUBE CONNECTORS
The present invention relates to frame tube connectors for connecting the frame tubes of a walker by screw bolts and nuts.
The walker which is most popularly used b disabled persons for walking is generally comprised of two parallel front wheel frame tubes to hold two front wheels, a plurality of transverse frame tubes connected between the front wheel frame tubes. and two rear wheel frame tubes respectively connected to the front wheel fame tubes to hoid two rear wheels. Howex-er. this structure of walker has drawbacks. Because the frame tubes are connected together by welding, the manufacturing process of the walker is complicated. and only skilled persons can do the welding job. Besides.
additional welding equipment must be prepared for doing the welding job. Furthermore, because the frame tubes are connected together by welding, the welding quality affects the structural strength of the frame. It is dangerous to the user if the frame tubes of the walker are not positively welded together.
It is an object of the present invention to substantially eliminate the aforesaid problems.
According to the present invention there is provided a frame tube connector comprising a connector body having at least two apertures extending therethrough and transverse locating apertures at different elevations along the connector body for receiving frame tubes insertable respectively into the said apertures and having locating means transversely aligned respectively with the transverse locating apertures on the connector body, and securing means insertable respectively through the transverse locating apertures on the connector body and frame tubes for securing the frame tubes in the connector body.
In one preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention there is provided a frame tube connector which connects frame tubes together by screw bolts and nuts instead of the process of welding. Advantageously, there may be provided frame tube connectors which greatly simplify the production process of a walker and simultaneously reduce its manufacturing cost.
The present invention will now be described by way of examples with reference to the annexed drawings. in which:
Fig. 1 is shows a frame tube connector according to one embodiment of the present invention; Fig. X shows an alternate form of the present invention: and
Fig. 3 is an applied view of the present inention showing the frame tubes of a walker respectively connected by frame tube connectors of the first and second embodiments of the present invent ion.
Referring to the various drawings attached herewith. a detail description of the structural features of " FRAME TUBE CONNECTORS " of the present invention is as follows:
Referring to Figure 1. a frame tube connector in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention is generally comprised of a connector body 1 and two sets of screw bolts 10 and 10' and nuts 11 and 11'. The connector body 1 comprises two vertical through holes 12 and 13 for mounting two frame tubes 20 and 21 respectively, and two transverse locating holes 100 and 100' across the parallel through holes 12 and 13 at different elevations. The frame tubes 20 and 21 have transverse locating holes 200 and 210 corresponding to the transverse locating holes 100 and 100. on the connector body 1.When the frame tubes 20 and 21 are respectively inserted into the vertical through holes 12 and 13, the screw bolts 10 and 10' are respectively inserted through the transverse locating holes 100 and 100 on the connector body 1 and the transverse locating holes 200 and 210 on the frame tubes 20 and 21 and then screwed up with the nuts 11 and 11'. and therefore the frame tubes 20 and 21 are connected in parallel to tne connector body 1.
Figure ' snows an alternate form of the frame tube connector of the present invention. As illustrate, the connector body 1 comprises a third transverse locating hole 101 (in addition to the aforesaid locating holes 100 and 100') across one vertical through hole 13 for fastening a third frame tube 22 (relative to the aforesaid parallel frame tubes 20 and 1) outside the connector body 1 by a third screw bolt 14 and a third nut 15 (relative to the aforesaid screw bolts 10 and 10' and nuts 11 and 11'). The third frame tube 22 has a transverse locating hole 220 connected to the third transverse locating hole 101 by the third screw bolt 14 and the third nut 15.In this case, the frame tube 20 which is connected to the vertical through hole 13 must have a through hole (not shownl for passing the third screw bolt 14.
Furthermore, the third transverse locating hole 101 is not arranged in parallel with the first and second transverse locating holes 100 and 100'.
Figure 2 shows the frame tubes of a walker connected by frame tube connectors of the present invention. As illustrated, the lower transverse frame tube 23 is connected between the two front wheel frame tubes 2 by frame tube connectors of the first embodiment of the present invention shown in Figure 1: the upper transverse frame tube 25 and the rear wheel frame tubes 27 are connected to the front wheel frame tubes 24 by frame tube connectors of the second embodiment of the present invention shown in Figure 2.
