Abstract
A plant support consist of a base 10 which when inserted into soil provides the means onto which a releasable tube 20 is fitted. The combination of base and tube provide a stable foundation onto which plants can be supported via the use of releasable support clips 30 to which the plants are tied. The relationship between the ridged base and flexible support tube, allows any supported plant to move in the wind without substantially moving the base section of the support. Containers (Figure 3, not shown) may be releasably positioned on the support tube 20 and filled with suitable growing medium so that the support can be used to display plants and flowers. <IMAGE>
Description
PLANT SUPPORTS
This invention relates to a plant support.
Plant supports are well known and are normally made of wood or cane, which are pushed or driven into the soil. Plants are then tied with string or ties to the support in order to promote their growth and survival.
Sticks and canes are prone to damage from the elements.Their insertion into the soil to a depth that offers suitable stability and support to a plant also leads to breakage and damage.
According to the present invention there is provided a plant support method that comprises of a central support stem from which at right angles is attached a further support stem. The support is inserted into the soil by placing the users foot onto the right angle stems foot rest, using the weight of the body to complete its installation.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 shows in perspective the support detailing its shape, foot rest, and support tube section.
Figure 2 shows the tube support fastened to the ground support section, with two plant support clips attached.
Figure 3 illustrates its use as a flower display stand using detachable plant holders, mounted onto a support tube.
Figure 4 shows a plant display holder and plant support clip.
Referring to the drawing the plant support comprises of a ground insertion section 10 to which a releasable tube 20 is attached for example by clip, feral, bolt (not shown). Additional soil holding assemblies 30 are slid on to the tube 20 and secured by a locking device (not shown).
The ground insertion section 10 is strengthened by the use of gussets 50 placed at right angles to the insertion prongs.
In order to assemble the support, the ground insertion section 10 is slid into the support tube 20 and locked into position
The support is then pushed into the soil using the foot rest provided. If the assembled support is to be used for decorative display the soil holders 30 are then slid into position and locked in place.
The supports are constructed of plastic, plastic and metal or any suitable combination in order to provide a durable and strong product.
Claims (5)
1. A plant support comprising of a base section with only two ground insertion prongs with strengthening gussets at right angle intersections are inserted into the soil. Flexible tubing with releasable means is attached to the base section.
2. A plant support as claimed in claim 1 wherein means are provided to attach releasable plant support clips to the tubing. The clips then provide means of securing and supporting growing plants.
3. A plant support as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein means are provided to attach to the support tube by releasable means, containers of suitable size and shape in which plants are able to grow.
4. A plant support as claimed in any proceeding claims wherein the base ground insertion section comprises of only two insertion prongs, Between the prongs is provided a section of suitable size to assist in the installation of the support into the ground.
5. A plant support substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawings.
