Abstract

A raised platform is provided for supporting a growing bag clear of an underlying surface, the platform having detachable means 12, 14 for receiving plant support canes, the tubular members 14 piercing the growing bag completely, in use, and having slots or holes providing for drainage from the bag. <IMAGE>

Description

GROWING BAG PLA@FORM & CANE SUPPORT WITH @RAINAGE HOLES This invention relates to a growing bag platform and cane support with drainage holes.
Growing bags are a very popular and convenient method for the cultivation of plants. Widely used commercially and by the home gardener. There are however problems when supporting growing plants, especially when installed on a hard paved or concrete surface, also the problem of overwatering.
According to the present invention provision is made to raise the growing bag off the ground in the form of a rectangular platform fitted with feet shaped in a means to rigidly secure cross laterals fitted with tubular uprights and suitably shaped to pierce a growing bag. Tubular uprights to have slot or holes for drainage. Cross laterals to be fitted with means to form a stop at one enc.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the growing bag platform, and assembly arrangement for the tubular laterals; Figure 2 illustrates the method of fitting the growing bag; Figure 3 shows the completed assembly in a typical cultivation Referring to the drawing the assembly Fig 1 comprises of a raised platform 10 fitted with shaped feet 11 hooked at top to retain firmly the looped ends of the cross laterals 12. The cross laterals to be formed with a double bridge 15 at centre and i-n a continuous loop for rigidity, shaped at one end to form stop 13. Each lateral to be fitted with a central vertical tube 14 having a taper at the top, and a suitable hole or slot positioned at the lower end.
In order to assemble for use, slide each tube lateral 12 fully into retaining wires of feet 11 until restricted by stop 13 in Fig 1. Reverse this sequence to dismantle and to store safely.
Position growing bag centrally over tubes Fig 2 and carefully lower into place. Allowing the tubes to pierce the bag cleanly without tearing.
Cut out planting slots as required to expose tube ends and insert suitable canes to pass completely through to floor surface as shown in Fig 3. Canes must be selected which allow easy fitting in tubes, as the small gap is necessary to permit drainage. A wedge or similar means (not shown) is necessary to provide a firm fixing for the canes at the tapered end of each tube lateral.
When used on a soil surface, the cane supports can continue down into the soil for extra stability.
