Abstract

228,807. Marks, E. C. R., (Maschinenbau- Anstalt Humboldt). Oct. 13, 1924. Mills and apparatus.-Apparatus for grinding or disintegrating materials by means of balls or other grinding-bodies is provided with a grinding-path consisting of one or more vanes rotating about a vertical axis, the grinding-path raising the balls &c. and the material being ground and allowing them to descend after reaching the highest point of the path. The material is fed through a hopper l, Fig. 3, into a casing a containing a solid or hollow vertical shaft c upon which are mounted worm segments d. The casing is closed at the top and bottom by a cover g and sieve-plate f respectively. The plate f may be exchangeable or provided with means for adjusting the size of the openings therein. The fine material passing through the plate f is directed by a scraper s to the outlets m, n. A vacuum pump may be connected at the branches p, q, or r. Two or more screws may be provided rotating in the same or in opposite directions. The casing may rotate and the shaft and screw be stationary, or both casing and screw may rotate either in the same or in opposite directions. The worms d may be perforated, and the casing subdivided in axial direction. In another arrangement, the grinding-path consists of saddle-shaped vanes which raise the grinding- bodies and materials and then let them slide down the inclined rear side of the vane. As shown in Fig. 4, the material passes out of the preliminary grinding-chamber A through a lateral outlet C provided with slots into a hopper D which leads it through an aperture E into the second chamber B. The plate F between the chambers A, B is provided with slots closed by a plate G which is actuated from the outside. The bottom plate I is also provided with a coverplate K. The plates F, I are opened occasionally to discharge accumulating foreign bodies. The finished material is delivered from the chamber B through a lateral slotted outlet L into the discharge passage M. The outlets C, L may extend entirely round the casing.
