Abstract
228,566. Schmidt, J. Jan. 30, 1924, [Convention date]. Skid.-Relates to skid or stop blocks for railway vehicles of the kind adapted to be placed on the rails and automatically thrown off the rail by spring means when relieved of the pressure of the wheel and consists in the provision of means whereby the block may be thrown off on to the outside of the truck whether the block is placed upon the one or the other of the pair of rails. The block comprises the usual hinged plate 2 against which abuts a spring 4 and which after being depressed by the pressure of the vehicle wheel is held by a catch on the hinged handle of the block. The spring 4 abuts also against a socket 6 which when the block is relieved of the pressure of the wheel is forced through an aperture in the sole 1 of the block which is thereby caused to fall off the rail. The socket is provided with an eccentrically arranged projection 5 and by turning the socket this projection can be so disposed as to bias the fall of the block to the desired side of the rail.
