Abstract

The controller has a hand grip 2 which is gripped and moved with respect to an arm support 1 to control computer programs using only one hand. The hand grip 2 and arm support 1 are connected to a universal joint 3 which has pivot points 8 and switch contacts 7. A switch 5 may be provided on the hand grip 2. The controller is hollow so it slides on and off of an arm. Padding is provided inside the controller which when worn protects against edges and provides comfort when in use. After the controller has been removed the arm support 1 stands on flat level surfaces. <IMAGE>

Description

Computer Controller This invention relates to a single handed computer controller.
Computer controllers are well known devices, some of which are commonly reffered to as "Joysticks". Such devices operate using two hands, one to hold the base and another to operate, or the base is fixed to a surface by clamps or vacuum cups and one hand to operate.
The single handed computer controller is intended to be used with one hand only required, giving greater freedom to the user.
According to the present invention there is a single handed computer controller comprising an arm support, a hand grip, a universal joint and a cable.
A Specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the controller complete.
Figure 2 illustrates the controller in use.
Refferring to the drawings the controller comprises an arm support 1 and a hand grip 9 both of which are secured to the universal joint 3. A cable 6 runs into the universal joint 3 where it connects to switch contacts 7. The hand grip 2 pivots with respect to the arm support 1 via the pivot points 8 enabling movement in all directions 9 & 10 (Fig 2). The padded grip 4 connects to the hand grip 2 which accomodates a control switch 5. Further padding 13 is fixed inside the hand grip 2 and the arm support 1 (not shown).
In order to fit the controller a hand is inserted into the arm support 1, through the universal joint 3 into the hand grip 2 where the fingers are gripped around the padded grip 4. The index finger rests gently on the control switch 5 and the arm support 1 rest against the arm as shown in fig 2.
In order to operate the controller, move the hand up, down, left, right and press the control switch 5 with the end of the cable 6 connected to a computer interface.
To remove the controller, grip the arm support 1 and slide off of the arm.
