Abstract
Lightweight, foldable rods 15, 16 are attached to the brake and accelerator pedals of a vehicle with automatic transmission by means of clamps 10, 12 with ball joints 13, 14. The accelerator rod 16 passes through an aperture in the handle 19 of the brake rod 15 and terminates in a push knob 20. The hand controls are for use by drivers with a paraplegic disability but with good hand function and can filled and removed quickly without modification to the vehicle. <IMAGE>
Description
LIGHT WEIGHT PORTABLE HAND CONTROL
This invention relate to light weight portable hand control to suit automatic. transmission motor vehicles for the use of disabled people who have good hand function.
Hand controls for autoaBtic transmission motor vehicles for use by the disabled arc well known wich comprise rods fixed to the foot brake pedal ano accelerator pedal leading to handles which enable people who have a paraplegic disability but good hand function to operate these controls by hand.
The fitting of such hand controls to a vehicle, however is relativelv time consuming, requires tools to do the fitting, in some cases a certain amount of modification to the vehicle and is therefore costly.
According to the present invention there is provided a portable light weierht, folding, hand control with a means for quickly releasablv securing the control to the foot brake and accelerator pedals without the use of tools, with no modification to the vehicle being necessary.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by wav of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows in perspective, the control folded.

Referinz to the drawing the control comprises a foot brake pedal clamp 10, an accelerator pedal clamp 12 fitted by means of ball joints 13 and 14 to folding push rods 15 and 15 wich are in turn fitted with locks 17 and 18. The accelerator rod passes through an aperture on the front end of the foot brake rod handie 19 and is fitted with a push knob 20.
In order to tit the the control to a vehicle the folding rods 15 and 16 are iixed in the straight position bv means o the locks 17 and b, the foot brake pedal clamp 10 Jaws, are then located above and below the foot brake pedal, the clamp is then tightened and locked b means of the brake clamp locking key 21. Then the accelerator clamp 12 is located on the accelerator pedal and locked into position by means of the accelerator clamp crew 22, the fitting is then complete.
To remove the control from the vehicle the steps described above are carried cut in the reverse seouence.
Claims (1)
- CLAIM1 A light weight, quickly releasably curable, folding hand control which can be fitted without the use of tools, or the necessity of any modification to the vehicle to which they are fitted, comprising, foot brake and accelerator pedal clamps attached by ball joints to lockable folding rods, the foot brake rod having at the end opposite to that attached to the foot brake clamp a handle through which passes the accelerator rod, the accelerator rod having a push knob fitted to the end opposite to that attached to the accelerator clamp.
