Abstract

A handbrake lock in the shape of a box 10 with an angled hinged lid 14, can be used on levers on vehicles or machines, when not in use. The main body box 10 is provided with the means 17 at rear end for mounting on a lever, with means for trapping sleeved collar 19 between box 10 and lid 14 by slot 17 with 'U' piece 23 and cut out 16. The lever release button is contained inside front of box 10 in concave bush 18 in elongated hole 21. The box 10 when mounted on handbrake lever is secured with closed lid 14 by lock 12. When box 10 is not in use it can be kept in a glove compartment. <IMAGE>

DETACHABLE HANDBRAKE LOCK This invention relates to a detachable box with for example a cam lock (which need not necessary be the only type used) for securing the handbrake on a vehicle or machine.

Handbrake locks can be of various shapes and sizes, when used they should render vehicles or machines immobile and/or unusable, The most common design locks the handbrake and the gear lever in a joint telescopic operation but will not fit on some makes of vehicles can be relatively expensive, difficult to stow away in a small car. also for some people complicated to use, According to the present invention there is provided a box, means at rear end of box to slide on and off a lever,means to adapt different sized levers to slide on and off rear end of a box,means to isolate release button on lever inside box,means to secure lever handgrip, means to secure box when mounted on lever A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 Shows box with lid open and lock cam..

Referring to the drawing the boxlock comprises a slotted box with rounded base 10 at rear 17 grooved to accept 'U' piece 23, a right angled hinge 14 with semi circular cut out 16, split double collar with split sleeves 19 means to join split collar and sleeves 20, means to secure collar and sleeves 20 to lever 22 a bush to contain handbrake release button 18 and eg; lock 12.

In order to fit the boxlock to a handbrake with a moulded handgrip, (first select the correct size 'U' piece 27, the 'U'piece 27 is slid into grooved slot in cutout 17 in rear of box 10 pulled up at rear of handgrip and locked around lever by lock 12) to fit the boxlock onto a hand brake without moulded grip first put collar 19 with appropriate sleeve provided around lever securing with means provided 20/22 at exact distance from front of handbrake to fit slot 17 in rear of box 10 onto collar 19 the box is offered at an angle under the handbrake handle the release button of handbrake is slipped into elongated concave hole 21 in bush 18 at the same time the rear end of box 10 with cutout 17 is pulled up onto the middle of collar 19 with a backward lifting movement, the lid 14 is then closed and locked.

To remove the boxlock from handbrakes simply reverse the procedure, where collar is attached to handbrake lever collar should be left in place for future use.

1 A detachable handbrake boxlock comprising a box adapted at rear end to slide on and off a lever, a hinged lid, means to trap lever between lid and box ,means to accept different diameters of levers,means to isolate lever release button inside front of box ,means to secure lever handgrip between release button and rear of box means to secure lid of box when closed over hand grip on lever

2 A detachable handbrake boxlock as claimed in claim 1 wherein means are provided at rear end of box to slide on or off a lever,

3 A detachable handbrake boxlock as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein guide means are provided on lever to accept rear end of box,,

4 A detachable handbrake boxlock as claimed in claim 1 and claim 3 wherein means are provided to trap different sized levers to box,

5 A detachable handbrake boxlock as claimed in claim 1 and claim 4 wherein means are provided to secure lever and release button inside box,

6 A detachable handbrake boxlock as claimed in claim 1 and claim 4 and claim 5 wherein means are provided to secure brake lever handgrip and release button.

7 A detachable handbrake boxlock as claimed in claim 1 or any preceding claim wherein the box when mounted on a lever using variable 'U' pieces can be secured with a lock.
