Abstract

A hand-brake lock consists of a shaped sleeve to fit over a hand-brake handle to lock the lever in fixed position thus making the car immobile. The sleeve has a slot cut at the open end, allowing a clip with an eye-piece (3), already fitted on the lever to protrude through the sleeve and thus hold the sleeve in position when padlocked. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Hand-brake lock for car or similar vehicle This is a device which is for the prupose of locking a car hand-brake when the vhicle is stationery, and so renders the vehicle immobile.
This project consists mainly of 2 parts:1) A steel sleeve which slips over the handle and part shank of the Hand-brake.
2) A sturdy steel clip with an eye-piece fixed to the top, and two screw holes each at the bases of the open ends of the clip.
Figures 1 and 3 show the steel sleeve which fits over the handle of the brake and part of the shank.
The steel machined nose-piece has a reduced flange to accommodate the sleeve, and is secured by soft soldering or brazing. This part is devised to give protection to the push-button of the handbrake from malpractice, such as hammer blows, and so must consist of strong material.
The steel sleeve has a slot -1- further towards the open end that takes the eye-piece -3- for padlock fitting. The sleeve is tapered to allow it to be slipped over the hand-grip and tilted sufficiently to allow the slot -1- to engage with eye-piece -3-.
The sturdy spring steel clip has the eye-piece -3welded to the top of the clip. This clip is clamped to the shank at the rear of the handgrip and secured by 2 screws with self-locking nuts at the base of the clip -4-. This clip is to be fitted in position to allow for the eye-piece -3- to project through the slot -1- Figure 1 for attaching the padlock.
Figure 3 shows the interior and final assembly of the device.
A multiple key or combination padlock completes the locking of the hand-brake.
The most important part of this device is the locking together of the ratchet and pawl by making the brake push-button inaccessible.
1. A Hand-brake Car/Vehicle Lock comprising a shaped metal sleeve to be slipped over the shank and handle (which includes the push button) of a hand-brake when the vehicle is stationary.
2. A Hand-brake Car Lock as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a spring clip with an eyelet is provided to be screwed on to the shank of the brake handle by two self-locking screws, for the eyelet to protrude through and arrest the sleeve and locking into position by a strong padlock.
3. A Hand-brake Car Lock as claimed in Claim 1 is specially strengthened in the nose-piece to prevent damage by a violent blow.
