Abstract

Magazine wrenches; retaining in engagement; shanks.-In magazine spanners particularly for removing the securing nuts of motor wheels and of the kind comprising a hollow barrel 1 provided at the operative end with nut retaining means consisting of one or more longitudinal springs 9 associated with radially-moving members 11, the springs are partially or wholly loated in recesses 8, cast or otherwise formed in the exterior of the barrel. An elastic or rubber ring 14, on the end of the barrel, encloses the retaining devices preferably without bearing on them. The barrel 1, which has inspection openings 2, is internally of hexagonal shape to receive the nuts, these being pressed forward by a piston 7 and spring 6 in the usual way. The outer end 4 of the barrel is of hexagonal shape for turning by means of a spanner and has a square hole to receive the end 3 of a tommy-bar 15. As shown, the member 11 consists of a pin, the, end of which is conical, domed, or has inclined faces, but a ball, a roller rotatable on trunnions, or a pin arranged tangentially to the barrel may be employed. The wall of the end of the barrel may be thickened round the recesses. Specification 226,358 is referred to.
