Abstract

A wall mounted hob consists of a modular construction which allows storage of the unit against a wall when not in use. This leaves the worksurface free for alternative uses whilst adding an element of safety from the touch of small children. The unit in use is pulled down by means of a handle. The hob may be used in conjunction with additional hobs. <IMAGE>

Description

WALL MOUNTED HOB This invention relates to a wall mounted hob Contemporary building trends show a marked reduction in size for the average home (ie the contemporary 2/3 bed semi or town house and flats). This could be attributed to many factors such as the high cost of land, and the housing demands of first time home buyers and single professional people, but as a consequence the space available for the kitchen has correspondingly been reduced. The introduction of the "essential" household items such as the washing machine, dishwasher, the refrigerator and the microwave oven all fight for inclusion in a limited space.
Because today is the age of speed where time is of the essence, the microwave oven is fast becoming the accepted alternative to the conventional cooker as a means to prepare a meal. In tandem with developments in the housing markets, "fast food" and "cook and serve" meals are becoming the norm in todays society and could be the principal method of providing a meal in most homes by the turn of the century. However, as effective as the microwave oven is, the means to prepare the conventional meal or quick snack will still be necessary and the unit invented offers this facility along with greater utilisation of the limited space in the cooking environment.
DESCRIPTION With reference to the drawings provided, the wall mounted hob comprises a wall mounted unit of a modular construction with an end cap Fig.l(A) and power supply Fig.l(B). A handle is provided as a means of pulling the hob into the working position Fig.l(C) and a means of storing the hob in position Fig.l(D).
The unit can be used as a single entity or in conjunction with additional hobs as depicted in Fig2 by means of fittings (not shown).

1 A hob movable between two positions, working and storage.
2 A cooking unit in which at least one extra unit may be added to an existing unit.
