Description

2275578 MOTOR VEHICLE DOOR LOCK This invention relates to a motor vehicle
door lock with a lock plate, components of the closure mechanism attached to or mounted on the lock plate in a fixing region, with a lock housing with a housing base and an end wall and with electrical components which are connected via electrical leads to contact devices for integration in electrical circuits and which themselves have connection leads. For example, the electrical components may be switches for operating a central locking system, switches for operating an anti-theft device or for setting an anti-theft alarm installation, switches for indicating an open or closed door, or switches for an electric motor for operating a central locking system or the like. The connection leads of the injection-moulded components are terminal lugs, connection is terminals, connection wires or the like. The function of the electrical circuits is- to supply energy or to control the electrical components.
Motor vehicle door locks of the construction described above which are known in practice have separate, exposed single-wire cables or multi-wire cables as their electrical leads, which are installed in the motor vehicle door lock.
Printed circuit boards are also known instead of cables.
There are associated, independent contact devices which are fastened on or in the housing and which are electrically connected to the associated components. Systems such as these are costly to assemble, and the reliability of the contacts occasionally suffers when exposed to extreme stresses. This can happen if the associated motor vehicle door is slammed with too high a kinetic energy or if the motor vehicle introduces significant stresses, also via the door, into the motor vehicle door lock when the vehicle is in motion.
A basic object of the invention is to simplify a motor vehicle door lock of the type described initially as regards its assembly and at the same time to increase the reliability of the contacts.
According to the present-invention,, there is provided a motor vehicle door 1o-ck-wi.th-,a lock plate, components of the closure mechanism attached to or mounted on the lock plate in a fixing region, with.a lock housing with a housing base and an end wall andwith electrical components-which are connected via electrical leads to contact devices for integration in electrical circuits and which themselves have connection leads, wherein at least the electrical leads are embedded in regions of the lock housing consisting of injection moulded plastic during the injection-moulding procedure, and wherein the leads are provided in the region of the connected electrical components with connection formations or connection devices for the.connection leads of the electrical components.
The inventionstems -f-rom the recognition that the leads which are necessary in motor vehicle door locks of the construction described initially do not have to be subsequently installed in the form of single-wire cables or - 3 multi-wire cables. The invention makes use of the fact that metal objects can easily be moulded into plastics if the said metal objects are inserted in an appropriate injection mould.
The invention makes use of the recognition that this procedure is possible without difficulties for the electrical leads of motor vehicle door locks if a lock housing consisting of injection-moulded plastic is employed. The embedded leads themselves are protected from mechanical stresses and from the effects of corrosion because they are moulded into the injection-moulded plastic which forms the wall of the lock housing. In this ---connection:,-- subsequent installation operations are unnecessary. Therellability of the contacts is increased because the leads are mounted practically free from vibration and the corresponding stresses on the contact is points are consequently reduced The embedded leads themselves require no insulation, because the injection moulded plastic can assume the role of the insulation.
However, insulated leads may also be embedded within the scope of the invention if the insulation is correspondingly configured.
In particular, several possibilities exist within the scope of the invention for further development and fashioning.
Thus the contact devices may also be embedded, at least regionally, in regions of the lock housing consisting of injection-moulded plastic. Itis understood that the entire lock housing may also -be formed from injection-moulded plastic.
Within the scope of the invention the possibility 4 exists of inserting individual electrical leads in the form of sheet metal strips in the injection-moulded plastic of which the lock housing consists. Connection wires amy also be employed, however. It is recommended that the arrangement is always effected so that the leads embedded in the injection moulded plastic at the same time fulfil a reinforcement function. A preferred embodiment of the invention which is of particular importance is characterised in that the electrical leads form part of a multi-pin connector with sheet metal strips embedded in regions of the lock housing consisting of injection-moulded-plastic, which-sheet metal strips start from a common distribution -element'and are separated from each other in the region of the-connected- electrical components after embedding in the injection-moulded plastic and is completion of the lock housing. This subsequent separation may be effected by punching, drilling or the like. The lock plate, optionally_a lock plate-which is.reduced at the fixing region, may also within the scope of the invention be embedded as a reinforcement in the lock- housing consisting of injection-moulded plastic- during the injection-moulding procedure.
The invention is described below in more detail with reference to the drawings, which merely constitute schematic illustrations of an example-of an.embodiment, and where:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through a motor vehicle door lock according to the invention; and Figures 2, 3 and 411luistrate details, shown partially in section, of the motor vehicle door lock shown in Figure.i.
The motor vehicle door lock illustrated in the drawings comprises a lock plate 1, components 2 of the closure mechanism attached to or mounted on the lock plate 1 in a fixing region, and a lock housing 3 with a housing base 4 and an end wall 5. In addition. electrical components 6 are provided, and are connected via electrical leads 7 to contact devices 8 for integration in electrical circuits. The electrical components themselves are provided with connection leads 9. The arrangement is effected so that at least the electrical leads 7 are.embe-dded in regions of the lock housing 3 consisting of injection--moulded plastic during the injection-moulding procedure. The leads 7 are provided in the region of the conne-cted- electrical components 6 with connection formations 10 or connection devices for the is connection leads 9 of-the electrical components 6. Figures 2, 3 and 4 illustrate how the- connection formations 10 or connection devices are constructed. Figure 2 illustrates a form of construction with a soldered sleeve 10, whilst Figure 3 illustrates resilient lips 10. In addition, Figure 4 makes it clear that the embedded leads 7 may also be provided in the form of an electrically conducting plastic or an electrically conducting. plastic film with a corresponding metallically conducting support 11. The lead 7 may have a hole 12 into which a connection lead 9 of the electrical components 6 is inserted, the connection lead 9 being soldered or welded to the support 11. In the form of construction shown in Figures 2 to 4 the electrical component 6 may be a switch, for example. In the embodiment il-lustrated, and according to a 6 preferred embodiment 'of the.invention, the contact devices 8 are also moulded-in, at least regionally, in regions of the lock housing 3 consisting of injection-moulded plastic. The entire lock housing 3 may also be constructed of injectionmoulded plastic, advantageously with reinforcement. In this respect, the electrical leads-7 which are embedded during the injection-moulding procedure may form the reinforcing elements. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention the electrical leads 7 form part of a multi-pin connector 13 with sheet metal strips 7. The latter start from a common distribution el-emeift-1:4..'-The individual leads 7 are separated from each other in the region of the connected electrical components 6-after embedding in the injectionmoulded plastic. Moreavep,.in the embodiment illustrated the lock plate 1 is- reduced at the- fixing region. This is indicated by the broken.line 15j The lock plate 1 is embedded as a reinforcement in -the-- lock-- housing 3 consisting of injection-moulded plastic du ring the _injection-moulding procedure.
