Abstract

Fluid-actuated gears. - In rock-drills and like tools with spool valves, the valve 17 is hollow, slides free of a central bolt 14 securing the assembled parts, and its ends which control a branched inlet 5 and a central flange 18 thereon which controls an exhaust passage 19, are a sliding fit in bushings 2 and the. chest 1 respectively. The valve-motion is limited by stops 15 which act as seats for the valve, and the flange 18 moves between the ends of the bushings 2 and engages the valve-chest. The bushings 2 are similarly constructed, and contain cavities 3 connected at 4 with the inlet 5 and at 6 with the cylinder ports 8, and are spaced apart to clear ports 10, 11 connected to the main-cylinder exhaust ports 12, 13 intermediate the inlet ports. The valve is reversed by the cylinder compression and fluid passing from the cylinder through ports 12, 13 and acting on either side of the flange 18 prior to exhaust. In a modification, the bushes 15 which are provided to prevent leakage along the bolt and against which the valve abuts, are dispensed with, and the bushings are provided with internal collars engaged by the valve. The exhaust ports may pass direct to the cylinder and the inlet ports crossed. Specifications 193,357 and 207,036 are referred to.
