Abstract
A sports glove, e.g. a goalkeeper's glove, has a latex ply 1 and comprises an inner hand part forming a palm and finger region, with the latex ply covering the external surface thereof. The internal surface of the latex ply 1 is mounted on a carrier ply 2 of textile fabric which is itself provided with a water impervious layer 5, (6) to prevent moisture reaching an inner glove part. The layer is formed either by impregnating it with a waterproof substance 5 or by covering it with a waterproof layer (6) such as a plastics film. The inner glove part comprises foam material 4 and a textile cover fabric 3. <IMAGE>
Description
GLOVE FOR SPORTS OR OTHER USE.
The invention relates to a glove for sports or other use and particularly to a goalkeeper's glove having a latex ply, in which an outer hand part is connected to an inner hand part and in which the inner hand part comprises a palm region and finger regions and externally forms the latex ply of which the inner surface is seated on a carrier ply of textile fabric.
In a goalkeeper's glove of simple construction of this type, which is known in practice, the carrier ply of textile fabric is untreated and is free towards the glove wearer's hand. The material of the latex ply under discussion here is rubber-like, sponge-like. When the goalkeeper's glove is used in the rain or in some other way in connection with water, the latex ply is saturated with moisture and the moisture penetrates the carrier ply of textile fabric to the glove wearer's hand. In this respect, this known goalkeeper's glove is unpleasant to use in the presence of water.
Therefore, an object of the invention is to provide a sports glove of the type described initially in which the transition from the latex ply to a hand located in the glove is impervious to the penetration of moisture. The sports glove in accordance with the invention, achieving this object, is characterised in that the carrier ply of textile fabric is provided with an impervious layer for preventing the passage of moisture.
The impervious layer for preventing the passage of moisture prevents moisture from penetrating from the latex ply to a hand located in the glove. The impervious layer is provided on, or in conjunction with, the carrier ply of textile fabric and does not affect the latex ply.
The passage of moisture to the glove wearer's hand is prevented in simplified manner and is very suitable in connection with the latex ply which is sponge-like and can be soaked with moisture. The impervious layer is provided in the carrier ply of textile fabric and/or on the side of the carrier ply of textile fabric opposite to the latex ply.
The invention also resides in the fact that the impervious layer for preventing the passage of moisture is formed by moisture-impeding impregnation of the carrier ply of textile fabric. The moisture-impeding impregnation of the carrier ply of textile fabric is advantageous in that it may be provided on the web of material from which the parts for the glove are stamped.
The moisture-impeding impregnation of the carrier ply of textile fabric can be provided before the latter is provided with the latex ply. As a rule, the carrier ply of textile fabric is immersed in a solution of impregnating material. It is also conceivable to spread the impregnating material on as a coating.
The invention also resides in the fact that the impervious layer is formed by a moisture-impeding cut piece of plastics film fixed to the carrier ply of textile fabric. Covering the carrier ply of textile fabric with the moisture-impeding cut piece of plastics film is advantageous in that it may be performed by the manufacturer of the glove without great expense.
The moisture-impeding cut piece of plastics film is usually glued to the carrier ply of textile fabric at least at certain points and is sewn to the other parts of the glove. Apart from the sewing, the cut piece is leakproof over its entire surface area, that is, it is free from perforations.
In the sports glove, the outer and inner hand parts are usually sewn to one another at the edge, also because of the latex ply. The carrier ply of textile fabric, which may also be a knitted fabric, is usually made from cotton, with or without a proportion of synthetic fibre, or purely from synthetic fibre, such a polyamide. The latex material is natural or synthetic and is usually a mixture of natural and synthetic latex.
It is particularly expedient and advantageous if a ply of foam material having a textile covering fabric is provided internally of and contiguous with the impervious layer. The ply of foam material having a textile covering fabric, and known per se in a goalkeeper's glove, improves the usefulness of the goalkeeper's glove and is prevented from being soaked with moisture by the impervious layer provided in accordance with the invention. The foam material is a plastics material and the textile or knitted covering fabric is, for example, a knitted nylon fabric.
Preferred embodiments of the invention are shown, by way of example, in the drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows, diagrammatically, a section through a part of a first sports glove in the form of a goalkeeper's glove having a latex ply, and
Figure 2 shows, diagrammatically, a section through a part of a second goalkeeper's glove having a latex ply.
The goalkeeper's gloves in accordance with the
Figures 1 and 2 each have an inner hand-part (not shown in detail) which comprises a palm region and finger regions which are of the construction shown. A latex ply 1 is provided externally and is connected to a carrier ply of textile fabric 2 over its surface area. A textile covering fabric 3 is provided internally and is connected to a ply of foam material 4 over its surface area. In the embodiment in accordance with Figure 1, the carrier ply of textile fabric 2 is provided with a water impervious impregnation 5 over its surface area, and, in the embodiment in accordance with Figure 2, the carrier ply of textile fabric 2 is covered over its surface area with a cut piece of plastics film 6 serving as the water impervious layer.
