Description

d 2263877 A device for catching the rolling oil spraying off in
cold-rolling mills through the roll gap and from the roll surface This invention relates to a device for catching the rolling oil spraying off in cold-rolling mills, especially thin strip rolling mills, on the strip outfeed side of a rolling stand, through the roll gap and from the roll surfaces and the strip surface.
In cold-rolling metal strips the working rolls and the strip are cooled by rolling oil. Although squeegee rollers, stripping devices, blower nozzles, blower and suction chests, etc. are fitted on the output side of the rolling stand, because of the oil mist which forms from the rolling oil spraying off the roll surface and the strip surface with strip velocities of up to 2000 m/min, a portion of the rolling oil deposits on the strip surfaces as a thin film or in the form of irregularly distributed drops, so that strip containing rolling oil is wound on to the winding core of the strip reel. The result of this is that the turns of the completed roll can shift in the axial direction and the core of the roll can fall out during transport, and that, insofar as the roll is annealed, the rolling oil residues are burnt into the strip surface, so that the originally clean surface of the rolled strip is severely affected in quality.
The invention is based on the object of developing a device which makes it possible to catch the rolling oil spraying off the surface of the working roll and the 0 top side of the strip in cold-rolling strip mills, on the strip out-feed side, through the rolling gap, so that no rolling oil can deposit on the rolled strip any more.
This object is met according to the invention by a catching device with the features of claim 1.
The dependent claims contain advantageous embodiments of the catching device.
The invention is distinguished by the following advantages:
By means of the catching members which circulate on endless conveyors, preferably endless chains, transverse to the direction in which the strip runs, in the region of both ends of the upper working roller above the plane in which the strip runs, the rolling oil which sprays off the roll surface and the upper side of the strip at the roll ends during rolling, is effectively caught. The catching members are p. ' -:> formed as large-area elastic flexible or resilient bodies, e.g. as brushes. The sDra'7 energy of the 2 rolling oil is dissipated through the elasticity of the catching members, so that no oil mist can form and deposition of oil on the rolled strip is avoided. The catching members operate optimally in conjunction with blower nozzles in the central region of the working rollers which urge the rolling oil over the roll surface to the roll ends, from which the oil bead which forms there is flung off by the centrifuLy'al CP -force. The atomised rolling oil is received by the catching members. By fitting the catching members on conveyors circulating transverse to the direction in which the strip runs, different strip widths are covered without adjustment of the catching members.
The invention will be explained below with reference to the drawings, in which:
Figure 2 Figure 1 is a plan view of a catching device fitted in the region of one end of a working roller, is a side view of the catching device according to the section II-11 in Figure 1 and Figure 3 is a rear view of the catching device.
The catching device 5 is fitted in a four-high stand for rolling thin strip, with two working rolls 1, 2 and two backing rolls 3, 4, for catching the rolling oil C7 c spraying off the surface of the upper working roll 1 and the upper side 9 of the running rolled strip 8 through the rolling gap 6. The device 5 comprises in the region of the two ends 10 of the upper working roll 1, on the strip out- feed side of a rolling stand, not shown, large area, elastic catching members 13 above the plane 11-11 in which the strip runs. The members are arranged in each case on an endless conveyor 12 circulating transverse to the direction a in which the strip runs.
Strippers 14 are provided for removing the rolling oil from the catching members 13 and catch devices 15 catch the rolling oil dripping off the catching members 13.
The catching members 13 are formed as brushes 16. It would also be possible to use other suitable large area bodies of rubber, foam rubber or like elastic material as the catching members 13.
1 Endless chains 17 with a regulatable drive 18, e.g. pneumatic, are fitted as the conveyors 12.
1 11 The brushes 16 circulating with an endless chain 17 move in the run 19 of the chain 17 facing the rolling gap 6 at a predetermined set angle a to the plane 1111 in which the strip runs, spaced from the surface 7 of the upper working roll 1, over the rolled strip 8.
At the run 20 of each endless chain 17 facing away from the rolling gap 6 there is arranged a stripping roller 21 for the brushes 16.
Below the path of movement away from the rolling gap 6 of the brushes 16 circulating with the endless chains 17 there are fitted trough-like catch trays 22 for the rolling oil dripping off the brushes 16. The rolling oil runs out of the catch trays 22 into the mill sump.
In between the endless chains 17 fitted with brushes 16 there are arranged blower nozzles 24 on the strip out-feed side above the plane of the brushes, directed on to the surface 7 of the central section 23 of the upper working roll 1, with a catch tray 25 bent like a trough below the nozzles and extending close to the roll is surface 7. The rolling oil collected in the catch tray 25 runs either directly into the rolling mill sump or via the catch trays 22 fitted below the brushes 16.
The blower nozzle 24 in the centre of the working roll 1 is directed perpendicular to the roll surface 7 and the further blower nozzles 24 distributed over the central roll section 23 are directed obliquely to the roll surface 7, directed towards the respective ends 10 such that the rolling oil is forced over the surface 7 of the central section 23 of the upper working roll 1 to the roll ends 10. The oil bead forming there is thrown off by the centrifugal force and the atomised rolling C t:l oil is received by the brushes 16, removed from the brushes by the stripper rollers 21 and led off through the catch trays 22 to the rolling mill sump. The portion of oil spraying off the central section 23 of the roll surface 7 is collected in the catch tray 25 and flows through the catch trays 22 in the region of the roll ends 10 into the rolling mill sump.
The endless chains 17 with the brushes 16 together with the blower nozzles 24 can be swung out of the region above the plane 11-11 in which the strip runs and in again by means of swing cylinders 26, for changing the roll.
